“I don’t know about the chances, but I’d be thankful if he (Aaron Rodgers) were there. He’d help the team a lot.” New York Mets outfielder Tyrone Taylor is a Pittsburgh Steelers fan and an Aaron Rodgers supporter, too. Tyrone wants Rodgers to join the Steelers’ squad. That’s what the Steelers hoped for when they offered him a contract. But with the draft only three days away, Aaron still has not given the team any answer. Ever since the veteran QB walked out of the Steelers’ building, he has only had good things to say about the team and coach Mike Tomlin. But what’s stopping him from inking a deal with the team?
With the draft coming up on Thursday this week, Mike Tomlin and Co. are still in limbo about Rodgers’s future. But it seems like they might have to shift their focus now. Coach Tomlin might have to rework his entire plan after a certain draft shift. That shift is Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders slipping down the draft prospect rankings. As per Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Steelers were not planning to draft a QB in the first round with their No. 21 overall pick. Tomlin might have wanted to address other positions using the team’s first pick.
With Shedeur now out of the top 10 prospects, the Steelers might pivot. If other teams pass on him, Pittsburgh could draft the Colorado QB to address its quarterback crisis.

Sources said the #Steelers had not been planning to draft a quarterback in Round 1, but they also were not expecting Sanders to fall out of top 10. Now, all options seem to be on the table, and they are preparing in case they have the option to draft Sanders.

The sudden fall in Shedeur’s draft stock might have affected Coach Mike’s initial plans. But drafting him could solve their QB woes once and for all. So, as the Pittsburgh QB situation remains a point of intrigue, an analyst and ex-GM has an interesting suggestion.
Aaron Rodgers as Shedeur Sanders’s mentor?
Would Shedeur Sanders be okay with starting his rookie year sitting behind a veteran QB? That seems like a highly unlikely possibility, right? But former NFL player and GM, Mike Mayock, would embrace it if the Steelers bring in Rodgers and also draft Shedeur. On an episode of The Rich Eisen Show, Mayock said that he likes the idea of Pittsburgh spending their first pick on Sanders.
The 66-year-old says that even if the Steelers have made up their mind to pick the Colorado QB, it should not stop them from bringing on board the ex-Jets QB. “I don’t think it, in my mind, should preclude an Aaron Rodgers deal. Matter of fact, I would embrace that if I were Pittsburgh. And uh, I would love Shedeur to sit a year behind a Hall of Fame NFL quarterback.” Mike believes that the young QB will eventually learn a lot sitting behind Rodgers, even if the veteran QB does not take an active mentorship role for Shedeur.

“What he can pick up from this guy in a year is mindboggling. So I’d rather not throw him to the dogs year one,” said the former Raiders GM. He believes that getting drafted at No. 21 would have less pressure on Sanders, so that would give him enough time to develop.

“I know he’s mature. I know he’s smart… But I would love to see him get some time to develop. And I’m hoping at 21 there’ll be a little less pressure. And I also know Mike Tomlin knows how to handle the heat.” The Colorado QB has spoken about the possibility of playing as a backup to Rodgers following his visit with the Steelers.
“If that’s how it plays out, then that’s how it plays out. I wouldn’t question what God has planned for me,” said Shedeur via the Up & Adams show.
