Philly fans, it’s good news! This offseason, all eyes are on Jalen Hurts and his team, the Philadelphia Eagles. Who could miss the roster decisions of the Super Bowl winners? Yeah, a couple of moves by Hurts’ team indeed puzzled many, such as releasing James Bradberry and six-time Pro Bowl CB Darius Slay. But now, as per recent reports, the Texas-to-Philadelphia pipeline remains strong.

Before moving ahead, let’s rewind a bit. Remember when the Eagles were going to play their Super Bowl LIX game and Jalen Hurts’ teammate said – “I’m definitely not retiring after this game, win or lose. I’m definitely playing next year. It’s really how you take it when you get up in age. You take it one year at a time?” We are talking about Lane Johnson. At that time, the offensive tackle expressed that he could play till 40, but would decide one year at a time. Now Philly has come up with a new gift for their veteran player.

The Eagles shared via their official account on X, “Paving the Lane for another year. We’ve agreed to terms with Lane Johnson on a one-year contract extension through 2027.” As Johnson expressed his moving forward with one year at a time, it seems Jalen Hurts’s team is also moving ahead with their plans for him for a year at a time.

On February 14, the Eagles locked in part of his 2025 salary, guaranteeing $10 million for injury. But now, they’ve taken it a step further by extending him for another year, keeping him under contract through 2027. According to Adam Schefter, Johnson reworked his deal, adding $8 million over the next two years and securing $30 million more in guarantees.

At 35 years old, this Jalen Hurts teammate is still a force. Over the next two seasons, he’ll earn $48 million, with $40 million guaranteed. And last season? He was unstoppable. The OT was ranked No. 1 among all NFL right tackles in pass-blocking grade (88.1), knockdown percentage (0.2%), and pressure percentage (2.2%). The illustrious resume didn’t end there for Lane Johnson. In 451 pass-blocking snaps, he allowed zero sacks and just one QB hit. Indeed he is a veteran – a leader – and still one of the best in the game.

But Lane Johnson wasn’t the only one who was signed on Monday.

Besides signing Lane Johnson, the Eagles have also signed pass rusher Azeez Ojulari for a year. According to Adam Schefter, on his Instagram post, Ojulari has been signed to a $4 million deal for 2025. The insider further noted, “Ojulari, who had 6.0 sacks last year, stays in NFC East and follows the same path that Saquon Barkley did during free agency last year.”

With his joining, Ojulari became the next player making his way to Jalen Hurts’ team from the Giants. Along with Barkley, he joins Patrick Johnson and Adoree’ Jackson as the latest ex-Giants to switch to their bitter rivals. For Philly, this is a smart, low-risk move. With Josh Sweat and Milton Williams gone, they needed more depth on the defensive front. Ojulari isn’t walking in with massive expectations, but he has a real chance to prove himself as a rotational pass rusher.

Back in 2021, he was a second-round pick with tons of potential. His rookie season was his best, racking up eight sacks and 49 tackles. But then came the injuries. Two stints on injured reserve in 2022 and 2023 slowed his progress. And when the Giants traded for Brian Burns, his role shrank even more. Still, in 2024, despite starting just five games, he managed to grab six sacks. So, we can see that the talent is clearly there. The question now is – can he stay healthy and make the most of this fresh start with Jalen Hurts and co.?
