The journey of Jackson to NFL fame is deeply rooted in his family’s influence. It is especially that of his mother, Felicia Jones. His early passion for football was nurtured by his father, Lamar Jackson Sr. His father was a high school football coach and instrumental in helping him realize his dream and assist him with training sessions. Unfortunately, Lamar’s path took a sad turn with his father’s untimely death due to a heart attack on the same day his grandmother died in 2005.
Lamar was only eight years old when this tragedy hit him. It was then that Felicia, a former track and field athlete, stepped up and became Lamar’s biggest supporter in life. She was there for him to select Louisville for his collegiate career, foresee it as a launchpad for his quarterback role and then to her steadfast presence at every game to offer valuable feedback.
According to Jackson, his mom never complained of anything and did all the things without any external help. Her unyielding support and insight were crucial in his development. Now, after Lamar’s mom’s many sacrifices and her unwavering support, Lamar often lauds his mother as his “superhero.”
This highlights her indomitable spirit in single-handedly raising him and his siblings. She managed her work life and never shied away from the challenges they faced, all without seeking any external help. Once Lamar also said, “If she can do that, I can do anything.” Felicia did everything she could to support her son and Lamar too paid her in dividends by being a stunning performer.

Lamar trusted his mom’s skills a lot. So much so that when he was drafted for the first time, he didn’t go anywhere but to his mom. He asked her if she could continue guiding him and she agreed to be his manager. Now, Lamar never holds back in praising his mom. Once he said, “She’s a huge influence on my life, just by raising the four of us.”

In that same interview, he said, “Just [seeing] how she [would] grind and work without complaining … not wanting me to get a job, telling me to focus on football and she’s going to take care of everything else.” Jackson also went on to write an essay for the ‘The Players’ Tribune.’ where he talked about his NFL career and credited much of it to his mother.
