Ever since it was announced that the Kansas City Chiefs and the Ravens would be having an AFC rematch later in the year, NFL fans have been ecstatic. Even Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce voiced their excitement a few weeks ago. However, just a day ago, the rival team’s QB, Lamar Jackson, downplayed the scheduled September 5th match by saying, “I really don’t care who we play; it really didn’t matter.”
In a recent episode of The Carlton Show, the host, Craig Carton, and his guest host, Plaxico Burress, discussed Jackson’s recent comments. The former wide receiver ended up calling out the 27-year-old’s nonchalance by stating, “I don’t know when not winning football games didn’t become a priority because it doesn’t matter who you play, just like you said but you do wanna win this game and get some confidence.”

Even the radio personality chimed in and added that no matter how close the Ravens came to a win against the Chiefs, it would not matter until they actually win. Carlton claimed that another loss against Kansas City could just give rise to the narrative, “You don’t have to worry about the Ravens, they can’t beat Kansas City.” After all, Mahomes’ team seems to have the upper hand with 8 wins out of 13 matches so far.
Although the Chiefs have proved they have what it takes to become regular Super Bowl winners, this could be the year of the Ravens. After all, Jackson might be playing it all calm and collected for the awaited rematch. However, that certainly has not stopped the athlete from using his rivals to up his motivation during the offseason.

Just last week, Lamar Jackson and the Ravens made their way to the team’s OTAs. During a press conference, the 27-year-old admitted that the AFC Championship match from four months ago had been his driving force as the days progressed. The quarterback stated, “I believe that just motivated us throughout the whole offseason. People are still talking about it; us players still talk about it.”

Jackson also stated that the whole experience had left a rather “bitter taste” in the mouths of the team. After all, they had gotten so close to bagging the Championship ring only to lose it at the last minute. The athlete continued, “We worked so hard in getting there and [we] didn’t do what we wanted to do, didn’t fulfill our dream; [there’s] definitely a little chip on our shoulder.”
With the whole team sharing the same sentiments as Lamar, the Baltimore Ravens could surprise everyone and turn the tables this year. However, with the Chiefs’ consecutive Super Bowl wins and the stats of Patrick Mahomes and tight end, Travis Kelce, there is no saying how any of it could actually play out. After all, both teams have proved to have the drive that takes them all the way to the finals.
