After NBC Sports reported that the New England Patriots might fire their head coach Bill Belichick after the current season, the NFL fans have had plenty to talk about. While the decision is not set in stone and there’s still a chance that it might be overturned, it looks like the Pats may finally be bidding adieu to their head coach who has been with them for more than two decades now.

But how did we get here? While the Pats’ defense has been bringing their A-game week in and week out, the offense has been struggling to share the load. Bill Belichick, who has been a defensive mastermind for most of his career, is finding it difficult to work his magic on the offensive side of the ball.

Taylor Kyles, who reports extensively on the Patriots, took to X to share his analysis of the Patriots’ many woes. While acknowledging that he is one of the best defensive planners of football, and his defensive team has been doing their part, the offense has crumbled since their last Super Bowl win.

The Pats severely lack development in the offensive tackle position. And that lack of development has finally caught up on them. The Pats restricted Trent Brown’s contract earlier this season which only goes to show that they are going to lean on him evermore as the chief anchor of the O-line. He has missed one game in the season so far and has been far from consistent. On the right tackle, however, Belichick failed to find a strong option.

In late April, the Patriots wasted their first three draft picks to fortify a defense that was already saturated with good players. First-round CB Christian Gonzalez and second-round DL Keion White both have done wonders for the Pats’ defense, although the team could have done with drafting with the offense in view.

They turned their attention to the O-line during their fourth round and invested in Jake Andrews, Antonio Mafi, and Sidy Sow. During the last offensive they missed out on signing players like Jawaan Taylor, Mike McGlinchey, and Orland Brown Jr. Instead, they settled for Calvin Anderson and Riley Reiff who set the team back only by $8.5 million.
