When the Arizona Cardinals announced they were bringing back veteran defensive lineman Calais Campbell, nobody celebrated it louder than Kyler Murray! Murray, the 2019 NFL Draft pick, who is known for his dual-threat capabilities, didn’t just drop a casual welcome-home post for Campbell. Campbell is back on a one-year contract that is valued at $5.5 million. And, his potential earnings can be maximized to $7.5 million. And, with his return, Campbell is receiving more than a casual shoutout from Murray. He makes sure everyone knows that the team has messed up previously by letting Campbell walk away in the first place.
Murray, who has earned Pro Bowl selections and led the Cardinals to the playoffs in 2021, took to his Instagram account to share his views. Resharing the NFL’s post on Campbell, which has the caption, “Calais Campbell is back in the desert,” his message was doublefold.
Firstly, he called out the Cardinals Front Office’s mistake, writing, “Should’ve never put on another uniform.” Campbell had exited the Cardinals after the 2016 NFL season. However, the second part of Murray’s 2-word message felt quite welcoming, as he wrote “welcome back big fella!”

The Cardinals believed they had a plan when they allowed Campbell to leave in free agency, as they bet on Robert Nkemdiche to occupy his spot. However, it was not a huge success. Meanwhile, Campbell went on a revenge tour, as he went on to rack up 54 sacks across various NFL stops. It was with the Jaguars, Ravens, Falcons, and Dolphins before joining the Cardinals once again.
Even at 38, Campbell isn’t ready to slow down. When Murray put up the post, he was not just speaking for himself. It was on behalf of every Cardinals fan who never sought to see Campbell leave in the first place.

Campbell addresses his return to the Cardinals
Campbell made a heartfelt post on his return to the Cardinals, and it said it all. Sharing a throwback photo from 2008, where he rocked a conference championship towel after guiding the Cardinals to Super Bowl XLIII, he penned his sentiments in his caption. He wrote, “What a story it would be! Started my career with a bang. Now it’s time to finish it with a bang back home where it first began!”

Prior to his return, his stats never slowed down. He started all 17 games for Miami in 2024, as he secured 5 sacks and 12 tackles for loss. He also played 58% of defensive snaps. Now, he is ready to enjoy his full-circle moment.

He is a part of the Cardinals’ revamped defensive front as he joins Dalvin Tomlinson, Justin Jones, Bilal Nichols, L.J. Collier, Darius Robinson, and Dante Stills. While the Cardinals are in rebuild mode, signing Campbell in 2025 will indeed give them a boost this season.
