“To be the champs, you got to beat the champs, and we didn’t do it tonight.” Those were the words of heartbroken, deflated, and emotional Josh Allen after they lost to the Chiefs in their AFC Championship game. Well, it was quite a familiar feeling for Allen, who lost his fourth postseason game against Patrick Mahomes Chiefs since 2020. As for the red team, they are yet again on their way to the Super Bowl—one game away from securing a historical 3-peat.

See, what made this win more impressive for the Chiefs is their record in one-score games. Dating back to their last season’s AFC Championship win against the Ravens 10-17, Kansas City has now won 17 consecutive games by one score. Like just imagine their consistency in winning games when the clash could go either way. You can also take a look at their regular season record this year. Out of those 15 wins, 11 of them were one-score games called in favor of the Chiefs.

So, when asked on The Herd with Colin Cowherd how he felt watching those close games of Kansas City, former Patriots LB Van Noy had a pretty clear answer that anyone who lost to the Chiefs could relate to, “I get really excited, honestly. Just because you know how to beat the best you gotta be, the best you got to beat him like it’s plain and simple if you’re trying to end something, you need to beat them.” But it seems Josh Allen did everything he could to stop the Chiefs in their tracks to securing a 3-peat. However, it was just not enough.

Like at one point, with just 6:15 minutes remaining on the clock, the game stood at 29-29. Still, the Chiefs found a way to secure the win thanks to a 35-yard field goal by Harrison Butker. Even after the game, when asked how they possibly managed to pull this off, Chris Jones had a pretty straightforward answer: “All year, we work through situations throughout the year, practice late-game situations, two-minute situations. So for us, it’s just another play. We’re very confident and…we’re used to being in these types of situations.” As they say, practice makes you perfect.

But did they really deserve to win on the night? Because there was a moment when the referees’ decision bailed them out in Kansas City.

Kyle Van Noy surprisingly sides with the Chiefs amid controversy

You know this game could have gone way differently if the Chiefs didn’t get a favorable call in the fourth quarter. Maybe, right now, we would be having talks of Josh Allen playing his first Super Bowl. Or Patrick Mahomes choking a 3-peat like 8 teams before him. But Nah, we aren’t having those discussions. Instead, it’s the referees who, yet again, dominated the news when so much was on the line. See, only 13 minutes still remained in Kansas City, with the Bills leading by a point. They only had to gain a yard from a 4th-down to get within a field goal range. However, when Allen tried to go for a Tush Push play on 4th and inches.

That’s when controversy ensued, with one crew of NFL officials giving the first down while others turned it down. And when the replays took place, there wasn’t enough video evidence to overturn the call. CBS rules analyst Gene Steratore thought Allen had gained those yards, but it was tough to tell, “I felt like he gained it by a third of the football.” But Ravens LB Kyle Van Noy thought the call was right, “I know everyone’s pissed off at the refs. I actually didn’t really mind the call because I feel like offenses get everything. So, like the ball wasn’t clearly seen. That’s just kind of my two cents on that play.” See, Van Noy could be right or could be wrong in his stance.

What’s your perspective on:

Did the refs hand the Chiefs another win, or was it just their championship grit shining through?

Have an interesting take?

But that call did change the game. The Chiefs were able to go on a touchdown drive that was finished by a 10-yard run from Patrick Mahomes. He then also found Justin Watson for a 2-point conversion. And that gave the Chiefs a 29-22 lead, which was just too much for the Bills to recover from. Well, right now, all you can do is debate what is right or wrong. While the Chiefs Kingdom prepares to welcome another Super Bowl, probably in a few days.
