Deebo Samuel left his fans aching for more in the 6-12 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. The wide receiver has been acting weird lately. Harassing his teammate Taybor Pepper and making absurd tweets. People believed that he was struggling, so he clapped back at them, saying he’s not. Well, he flatlined in the game against the LA Rams and Kyle Shanahan wasn’t happy about it at all.

Safe to say that his tweet aged like milk and people are flaming him for it. Even his own head coach, who addressed the dropped catch and said, “Yeah, that was a big one. Everyone knows the answer there, Deebo knows he needs to catch that.” On that note, let’s talk about the play.

The Niners were struggling throughout the game, having a hard time moving the ball around. Purdy was 14 of 31 today and when he did connect, the pass was dropped. With 8 minutes 30 remaining in the third quarter, Purdy lobbed the ball to Samuel on a third-and-10. The WR caught the ball and then dropped it, surprisingly. How’d that even happen? That’s beyond us.

The Niners could have gained some serious yardage, maybe even scored a touchdown on those set of downs. The wideout had 3 receptions over 16 yards and didn’t score. Even Samuel’s rushing numbers flatlined against the Rams, as he only got away with two carries over 3 yards. Mind you, Samuel easily has the ability to play a running back, so it wasn’t a skill issue.

Didn’t seem like none of the 49ers were in the right mindset to play against the Rams.  That became apparent when Samuel tackled his own teammate, Isaac Guerendo very early on in the first quarter. The game was embarrassing to watch, in all honesty. But that’s nothing compared to a tweet he put out a couple of days ago.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Deebo Samuel's performance slump a temporary glitch or a worrying trend for the Niners?

Deebo Samuel is frustrated, but Kyle Shanahan understands…

The 49ers wideout did something weird the other day. He tweeted out, “Not struggling at all just not getting the ball!” But then, he deleted the post shortly after. Don’t know what’s worse, Samuel calling out his team in a tweet, deleting it, or getting his post community noted on X. The community note chastised Samuel for leading the team in drops this year.

But despite all the social media bruhaha, Samuel stood on his words when he spoke to the media. “You read what you read,” Samuel said. “[I’m] a little frustrated for sure.” But his frustration kind of makes sense because throughout the season, Samuel has only recorded 43 receptions over 569 yards and has one TD to show for it. But it takes two to tango.

If we look closer at the numbers, Samuel was targeted 71 times in the season, so that’s just 60% of the passes caught. This might not be his fault entirely. It’s also up to the QB to get the ball across so it may as well be a joint failure. But if anything, Samuel wants to help the team and the head coach, Kyle Shanahan, understands it.

The 49ers cannot afford to lose one more game, or else they will be out of the playoff hunt. But many analysts also believe that the chances of that happening are more than 1%. So, take the playoff converstaion with a grain of salt.
