‘Mr. Irrelevant’ is about to set the stage on fire as the San Francisco 49ers gears up to host the Green Bay Packers. It’s Brock Purdy vs. Jordan Love. Kyle Shanahan Vs. Matt LaFleur. What could go wrong? Well, there are always naysayers for one and Purdy’s rise to fame was always a subject to him being called a “system QB”.

However, Shanahan’s unwavering faith in Brock Purdy has propelled the QB to where he is today. Even if he is a “system QB”, things have worked out pretty well for the Niners so far. In the wake of this upcoming game, some interesting facts about Brock Purdy have surfaced. Safe to say that he beat all the odds and led the San Fran team to playoffs.

A post from NFL rumors just made more of a case for Brock Purdy to be considered as “Mr. Relevant”, now more than ever. The tweet points out how every QB in the playoff right now is a first-round pick. Not Purdy. The tweet is captioned, “Every QB in the NFL playoffs right now are 1st round picks except for 49ers Brock Purdy who is a 7th round pick.” He was the second 7-round pick in the 2022 draft and despite that, he made it to the upper echelon of quarterbacks quickly.

Jordan Love, Jared Goff, Baker Mayfield, Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, and Patrick Mahomes are a few of the names that have all been drafted in the first round. And these are the QBs from the teams remaining in the playoffs. It goes to show that he worked his way up the ladder and helped the Niners to where they are right now.

The effect of his absence was seen in the last Niners-Rams game that ended 21-20 in Rams’ favor. Purdy didn’t play that game and the Niners couldn’t make it out with a win. However, this was a strategic decision on the team’s behalf because they didn’t want to exhaust their QB ahead of the upcoming playoff game.

Since the game against the Rams, Purdy has had a lot of time to rest for the playoff game, or so one would think. Kyle Shanahan spoke on Purdy’s readiness in a presser.

“He hasn’t been on a bye week,” said Shanahan pointing out how he has been pushing Brock Purdy to his limit. The management has been pushing him to train harder and attend more player meetings and such. Purdy even trained on his day off.
