It doesn’t feel great when you are on the losing end. And it feels worse when you find your players not in line with your motto. Well, that’s what Kyle Shanahan is feeling now. Why? It’s because his San Francisco 49ers seem to be divided!

San Francisco lost the week 15 game against the Los Angeles Rams 6-12. So, the pain of losing was already there, but hearing about a player who didn’t even want to play made it hurt even more to the Niners. Well, that’s what happened with De’Vondre Campbell when he told Kyle Shanahan about his pregame decision.

During a post-game press conference, via OurSF49ers’s X account, “HC Kyle Shanahan just told reporters that LB De’Vondre Campbell didn’t want to play anymore when he was asked to go in in the third quarter.” Wait, what?

Yes! During the pregame time, 49ers’s LB De’Vondre Campbell said that he didn’t want to play on Thursday against the Rams. However, Kyle Shanahan and his team tried to put him in the third quarter to replace Dre Greenlaw who went down with an injury. But what happened next left everyone puzzled. After this, Campbell just stood up, refusing the command, as he dashed into the locker room.

Now the question is, why is De’Vondre Campbell not interested in playing? Well, the answer to this might be what the linebacker said last year when he was with the Packers. During his X post, he reportedly shared that the team uses injuries against him – “Not going out my way anymore and I’m not playing through injuries anymore cause when s–t goes wrong they always use it against you. I’m treating everyone accordingly and giving them the same energy they giving me. Focus on yourself and your mental (health) you owe it to yourself.

Probably, that’s what he is thinking now too, given the circumstances that the 49ers are plagued with injuries this season. So, what’s next for him? Well, the reporters too asked the same question to Shanahan, and he replied on the nine-year veteran’s rumored release: “I don’t know, we’ll figure out something.” It’s clear that Shanahan is unable to understand what’s wrong with De’Vondre Campbell. Similarly, Brock Purdy too wasn’t sure about what happened with his teammate.

What Brock Purdy said about De’Vondre Campbell and his rejection?

During the same post-game presser, Brock Purdy was asked whether he knew about De’Vondre Campbell’s incident or not. To which, he replied,Yeah, I had no idea. I mean obviously I’m trying to focus on the offense and what we’re at. I didn’t know until after the game, to be honest, that De’Vondre was not playing, and yeah, I really don’t know what to say about that.”

Indeed, De’Vondre Campbell left everyone stunned with his decision. Now, with this, Campbell’s time on the field has been reportedly decreasing over the past three weeks. However, as per Yahoo Magazine, in the week 14 game against the Bears, he participated in 64.1 percent of the 49ers’s defensive snaps, with 7 tackles.

Looking at Campbell’s actions in the week 15 game, it would be quite interesting to see what will happen next in the 49ers’s locker room!
