The San Francisco 49ers were already short of their star running back, and now they are down one more. The 36-24 win at Lumen Field helped the Niners wipe the bitter taste from their mouths after a loss to the Arizona Cardinals, only to face another setback in the future games. Now, Jordan Mason has succumbed to an injury.
The 49ers RB got injured on a 14-yard run when he landed on his left shoulder, and Seahawks’ safety Julian Love landed on him. Kyle Shanahan didn’t want to take a chance and didn’t let Jordan Mason indulge in the game any further. The 49ers head coach gave a much-needed update on the running back’s condition after the game ended in his favor.
A post from Underdog NFL shared Shanahan’s reply to Mason’s situation. “He thought he was going to be all right. He went back in, and it just hurt him too much. … He was out just in case of emergency.” Mason, who replaced Christian McCaffrey, got injured in the second quarter of a 36-24 win against the Seattle Seahawks.

Mason was seen working on his left shoulder as he stood on the sidelines, but it was too risky to let him play. He initially walked to the locker room where he got his X-ray done and was ruled questionable to return. However, he did return in the third quarter to make an 8-yard run but went to the blue tent later.

Kyle Shanahan cannot take any chances because he got his fair share of backlash after Christian McCaffrey was declared to have not one but two injuries to each of his calves. The Bay Area HC is concerned about Mason but knows that these injuries can go from 0 to 100 in the blink of an eye.
“I don’t know, you never know,” Shanahan said. “I mean, adrenaline on these days during games is a little bit different. We’ll find out more tomorrow.” Per Shanahan, Mason could’ve returned under an “emergency situation,” but none of them chose to risk the situation. Before leaving the game, Mason had 73 yards over 9 carries on his stat sheet.

Jordan Mason has become an irreplaceable part of the San Francisco 49ers offense. He leads the NFL in carries and yardage. How did this happen so quickly?
The meteoric rise of Jordan Mason
Christian McCaffrey exited the scene, and Jordan Mason knew that this was his time to shine. He leads the NFL in carries and is tied for first with 114 carries, and his 609 yards are tied for second in the league. The San Francisco 49ers knew that he was an elite running back when he put up a 147-yard game against the New York Jets defense and even scored a TD.

Hopefully, this fame isn’t something short term and Mason will bounce back in some time. However, he’s in for a lot of X-rays and medical care before he’s declared free to play. While Mason was gone, Isaac Guerendo replaced him. However, the 49ers have another RB, Patrick Taylor Jr., in their arsenal.
It’s also to be noted that Rick Pearsall is also not returning anytime soon. The Niners are short of weapons, and Kyle Shanahan might be working overtime to work around all the lemonades he has to make for the lime that life is giving him.
