Week 8 ended with a win for the San Francisco 49ers against the Dallas Cowboys. With this, the Santa Clara team has improved to 4-4 in the NFL standings. And now, as the team is heading into their Bye week, what are the things that coach Kyle Shanahan and the team will assess?
This was the same question asked by a curious reporter to the HC in a post-game press conference. To which, the 44-year-old said, “When you look at our division and everything, we feel in a really good spot.” Good spot? Being at 4-4 in eight games isn’t a good spot, but anyway, it might be a Kyle Shanahan way to approach things and motivate his team.
Nevertheless, that doesn’t mean Shanahan isn’t aware of the issues. While addressing those, he focused on the immediate aftermath of the recent game, before going into the bye week. He admitted that while they’d aimed to win every game, the current 4-4 record isn’t exactly what they’d hoped for at the season’s start.

However, he emphasized the importance of the latest victory, which prevented them from falling to 3-5 and facing the bye week in a tough spot. So, now, looking ahead, Kyle Shanahan feels that their bye week will be an opportunity for players to rest, recover, and potentially bring back a few key members, aiming to build momentum and make a strong push in the second half of the season.
This is similar to what linebacker Fred Warner said – “It wasn’t the start [to the season] that we would have wanted.” Addressing the problems, Warner highlighted that they “dropped a couple early” and also faced multiple injuries. However, according to him, the team isn’t taking all these as an excuse, and hence, they have “just got to continue to get better, and that’s what we’re focused on going into the bye week, is getting healthy, hopefully getting some guys back, and just being our best version of ourselves going forward.” Even Brock Purdy admitted to getting better in the upcoming weeks.
The 49ers won against the Cowboys 30-24, and quarterback Brock Purdy played the main role in that.

The 49ers gave fans a nail-biter, but one dominant quarter changed everything. Heading into the bye week, they faced the Cowboys and, for a while, it looked tough. During halftime, Brock Purdy and Kyle Shanahan’s team were down 10-6. And it is clear from this score, that the momentum wasn’t theirs yet.
But after that, Brock Purdy took the reins. He led three touchdown drives in a powerful third-quarter surge that flipped the game on its head. And the points? Suddenly, it was 27-10. With this, the energy came back among the 49ers’ fans. Even though the Cowboys fought back. Dak Prescott found CeeDee Lamb for two late touchdowns, re-pushing the 49ers into a tight spot.
