It was the 2021 season when Aaron Rodgers took his team, the Green Bay Packers into the playoffs. A year after, the Jets, waiting to crack the playoff puzzle since 2010, brought him in, hoping for a magical revival from the veteran QB. But all in vain. Now, considering his retirement talks, A-Rod has made a decision. National reporter Kyle Brandt gave his two cents on the situation.
As per Fox’s Jay Glazer, the New York Jets quarterback is willing to meet his team. This strongly suggests that he is interested in playing next season – it just need not be the Jets. However, being a fan of Rodgers Brandt had a strong stance on what should be the goal for the QB.
During a segment of Good Morning Football on Monday, Kyle Brandt shared his perspective on why he thinks Aaron Rodgers should quit football. Showing his fandom, he expressed, “Aaron Rodgers is very personal to me. I feel like he is a band that, like, blew up as I started listening to music. It’s my generation. It’s my era. Like, this is—these younger guys, fine. The older guys, when I was a kid, I just—right when I started working in sports is when Aaron Rodgers’ career started. Here we are 20 years later. I loved watching him. I loved studying him. I’ve gotten to talk to him. Everything, even through controversial or dark times, I just was always fascinated.” But still, he thinks Rodgers shouldn’t be here. Why?

Answering the question, Brandt further continued saying that he thinks it’s time to move on. He respects Aaron Rodgers’s dream of going out like John Elway or Peyton Manning, but the reality isn’t always so perfect. Sometimes, legends fade out quietly. According to him, Rodgers has already done it all – four MVPs, a Super Bowl, 500 touchdown passes, and a final win at home. So, what more is left there to chase? Hence, Brandt thinks it’s time for the QB to quit.

While explaining his stance, Brandt also made a Hollywood comparison. He quoted, “When I think about Aaron Rodgers jumping on one last team to try it again after the Jets thing didn’t work out, there is an infamous passage of Jim Carrey’s Wikipedia page….and I think it kind of speaks to Rodgers right now.” And that verbatim is – “In April 2022, Jim Carrey announced that he was considering retirement, saying, quote, ‘I have enough. I’ve done enough. I am enough.’” But when the right offer came, he returned for Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Brandt warns Rodgers not to fall into the same trap.
Hence, he asked Aaron Rodgers to not chase one last chance just because it might feel important. It’s because, as per him, Rodgers has nothing left to prove. He’s bigger than a desperate last run. It’s time to step away, embrace the next chapter, and leave the game on his terms. After returning from the Achilles rehab, the Jets’s quarterback has finished off this 2024 season with 368 completions for 3897 yards and 28 touchdowns in 17 games. As he was unable to make it through the playoffs, many are questioning his legacy, performance, and age. But his teammate CJ Mosley still thinks Rodgers is the best QB for the Jets.
CJ Mosley thinks Aaron Rodgers is the best thing that happened to the Jets
Aaron Rodgers and the Jets – it was supposed to be a new era. Instead, it ended in disappointment. Injuries, setbacks, and a season that never lived up to the hype. Now, the rumors are that the team has reportedly told him they’re moving on. But will they?
Rodgers played just 18 games in two years. A torn Achilles stole his 2023 season. In 2024, he led the Jets to a brutal 5-12 record. As a result of this major fall, head coach Robert Saleh and GM Joe Douglas have already been shown the door. So, Rodgers could be the next. But probably, not everyone sees it as a failure. For instance, Jets captain CJ Mosley refused to let the losses define Rodgers’s time in New York.

He expressed, “We tried to do something special…..He did do some great things this year, getting his 500th [passing] touchdown. He was a leader no matter what when he came into the locker room when he was with us this year. Nothing but respect for him to come back from the Achilles, 40-plus years old.” But what about the team’s performance? He continued, “I know the wins and losses can get in the way of a lot of things that you can accomplish, but there’s no reason for him to leave New York with his head down ’cause I know he gave us his all.” So, all in all, Mosley doesn’t believe the QB’s career is over.

He believes Aaron Rodgers still has something left, and that he can still play at a high level. But of course, in the end, only one person can decide his future and that is Rodgers himself. So, the question now is what’s next? The Jets have options. They could cut him, trade him, or wait to save cap space. If they decide to make a move before June 1, they’ll take a massive $49 million hit in dead cap. However, if they wait until after June 1, they’ll save $9.5 million in cap space. But there’s another possibility: What if Rodgers retires?
