NFL is buzzing with excitement as the countdown reduces to hours for the historic Super Bowl LVIII clash between Mahomes’ Kansas City Chiefs and Brock Purdy’s 49ers. While both teams are equally strong, the Chiefs have a defensive edge. Not only do they have one of today’s best quarterbacks, Patrick Mahomes, in their squad, but they are the 2nd strongest defense of this season. However, a former Super Bowl MVP winner is of a different opinion.

A quarterback himself, NFL legend Kurt Warner, has rated 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy higher than that of Patrick and Baltimore Ravens’ star Lamar Jackson. However, he also revealed the strong reasons behind his observation.

Kurt Warner has led multiple teams to Super Bowl clashes, and as Allegiant Stadium hosts one between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, he is betting on the latter’s Brock Purdy. “I’m not sure there is a quarterback that’s played better over the last year and a half than Brock Purdy”, he said in an interview with ESPN. Warner added that he came to the decision based on his understanding of the game, and of course, watching the contemporary NFL games.

The Super Bowl winner explained that Purdy was the one making the most difficult throws that set him apart from others. While comparisons have been going on between Warner’s and Purdy’s career, he doesn’t think so because of the changing dynamics of a quarterback. Calling his times simpler, he added, “Now, we have got Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen. We got all these guys that play differently and they look differently, and so now Brock is more the minority”. But because of the situation Brock Purdy is in, and how he plays, Warner added that he was playing ‘really good football‘ despite receiving minimal attraction at the 2022 draft.

Purdy was almost unpicked at 2022 Draft

In the 2022 NFL draft, Brock Purdy was receiving no interest from any of the teams until the last pick. He was coming off from a great collegiate career at Iowa State, but fans all over the internet were calling him an ordinary player. However, 49ers’ coach Kyle Shanahan saw the talent inside him through a college tap and picked him up as their 262nd and final pick.

But the 49ers had the established quarterback Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo already in their lineup, and it was a daunting task for Purdy to take his place. However, with a bit of luck and a lot of hard work, he made his way into the team and excelled as well. Brock Purdy made crucial plays against the Detroit Lions last month, and now, Super Bowl LVIII will be the biggest test of his temperament as a player.
