Does Mike Vrabel's tough coaching style make him a great leader or a liability?

Week 12 is here! The Cleveland Browns are facing off against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday night at Huntington Bank Field. The third quarter was underway, and at that moment the Browns were ahead of the Steelers with 7 points. So, many were crossing their fingers hoping their favorite would win. But before this moment, what the fans heard on their television about Mike Vrabel probably felt odd to them.

During the live broadcast of Browns vs Steelers, Al Michaels and Kirk Herbstreit joined on the call for Amazon. However, during the second quarter, in a snowy, low-scoring affair announcer Kirk Herbstreit made a public revelation that took fans off guard. He said, “[Mike] Vrabel isn’t a ‘politically correct’ football coach, okay? I once saw him scream at a group of four-year-old children.

By mentioning this, Herbstreit highlighted the coach’s tough demeanor. He suggested he’s the kind of coach who prioritizes discipline and directness over being overly polite and or politically correct. This news particularly came in when Albert Breer reported that Vrabel’s perfect fit in the league is the Jets. He said, “Mike Vrabel makes the most sense to me, mostly because he won’t stand down to an owner, and that’s exactly what the New York Jets need.” Hence, the rumors are on for Vrabel’s next spot, after a poor season this time (2-8).

Despite this Jets’s rumors, Mike Vrabel is good in Herbstreit’s eyes. That’s why he shared this story saying that when he saw this incident, he knew Mike Vrabel is going to be a good coach. This incident happened when Vrabel himself was playing and during the offseason he coached a youth football team.

Hence, while narrating the full story, the announcer said, “When I learned Mike Vrabel was a great coach he had just got done winning the Super Bowl. Came back to Columbus and my twins and his son Tyler were about the same age. He coached, I think Kindergarten football, and he talked to them the way he talks to these Browns players. And I was like, that guy’s going to be a great coach. Get your a–s over here! I mean, he was just like in this politically correct style of coaching, that guy is a football coach. Even with kids.”

However, this didn’t sit well with the NFL fans as hoped by Kirk Herbstreit. Consequently, some online users demanded harsh punishment for Mike Vrabel.

NFL fans want to see Mike Vrabel in jail?

The praising story of Browns’s coach Mike Vrabel by Kirk Herbstreit turned out to be a surprising one for many. One fan couldn’t believe what happened, as they said, “What the hell was that story Herbstreit just told.” This clearly suggests the issue in digesting the story, as another NFL fan replied to this comment by saying, “I don’t know, but I’m not letting Vrabel near my grandkids.” You could sense a strong dislike for the coach.

Then again, another person went on saying, “Kirk Herbstreit just said on TNF that Mike Vrabel talked to his kindergarten football players the same way he does the Browns players and if that is actually true this man needs to be in jail cause we know how he talks lmao.” They directly demanded jail punishment for Mike Vrabel. Not only that!

Another one questioned Herbstreit’s choice of calling Vrabel a good coach. They cited, “Lmao did Kirk Herbstreit just say Vrabel is a good coach because he talked to kindergarteners like they were NFL players? And said get your a–s over here?” As per them, the cursing words used by the kindergarteners do not make a good coach. And that’s what sounded off for many. One sarcastically said, “Herbstreit saying Vrabel talks to kindergartners the same way he talks to the Browns players is great praise for that organization.”

All in all, Kirk Herbstreit’s story of Mike Vrabel went flat with the listeners. It surely provoked a controversy for the coach. As of now, the Steelers are trailing behind the Browns in the fourth quarter with 19-24.
