Some people age like fine wine, but even the best bottles pick up a little dust over time. Just ask Kirk Cousins. The guy’s racked up 4 Pro Bowl selections, a Bart Starr Award, and sits third on the Vikings’ all-time passing yards list. He has definitely marked his place, no doubt. But things haven’t always been smooth sailing for the veteran QB. After tearing his Achilles and missing half of the 2023 season. Bad luck struck again in Week 10 against the Saints, where he faced yet another injury. Now, with the offseason here, Cousins has some time to focus on recovery, family, and maybe shake off that bad luck for good.

If you ever want a glimpse of a truly loving NFL family, just scroll through Julie Cousins’ social media. It’s a love letter to her husband Kirk and their two sons, Cooper and Turner. Recently, she shared their first-ever Disney Cruise experience, and let me tell you, it’s the kind of wholesome content that makes you smile. Julie posted a pic of the boys with Jack Sparrow, captioning, “Went on our first Disney cruise this weekend!! Boys loved meeting Jack Sparrow.” And she followed up with a story showing off their dinner at Arendelle – straight from Frozen. Family goals, right here!

Not just Julie, but Kirk Cousins himself recently posted a heartwarming pic on his Instagram. Showing him with his sons at the Kennedy Space Center. The caption?Had to take my boys to the Kennedy Space Center while in Central FL. ‘We choose to go to the moon, & do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard’.” That line, famously spoken by John F. Kennedy, captures the same drive Kirk has – pushing through challenges both on and off the field.

Fans flooded his comments with love, with one writing, “We are about to witness the greatest comeback in NFL history,” and others urging, “Stay at the Falcons, please.” The support for this veteran is undeniable. But for now, Kirk’s focus is all about quality time with his family.

Kirk Cousins’ focus right now is all about recovery, both physically and mentally. When asked about his future with football on GMFB, he gave a humble and thoughtful response, “Time will tell. It’s still kind of uncertain. We’ll get to March and know a lot more. But, you know, I think the focus for me really is getting healthy.” With his future still up in the air, Kirk’s priority is getting back to full strength. And with the offseason here, it’s the perfect time to reset, reflect, and spend time with his family.

His recent adventures, from the Disney Cruise to the Kennedy Space Center, show that while the road ahead may be uncertain, one thing’s for sure – he’s soaking in the important moments with his loved ones. Now, all that’s left is to wait and see what the next chapter holds for Kirk with the Falcons.

What’s next for Kirk Cousins with the Falcons?

Kirk Cousins’ time in Atlanta seems to be winding down. And it’s looking more and more like his future with the Falcons is hanging by a thread. After being benched for rookie Michael Penix Jr. in 2024, it’s clear the team sees Penix as their future. With Cousins recovering from his Achilles tear and a roster bonus due in March of $10 million, that’s an artificial deadline for the Falcons to make a decision on his future.

If they can’t trade him, they’ll likely release him and absorb the $65 million in dead money, which they could spread over two seasons with a post-June 1 designation. Either way, his time in Atlanta appears to be over, and it’s just a matter of when, not if, he moves on.

The thing is, Cousins might be nearing the end of his Atlanta chapter, but he’s not going out quietly. As he said himself, “Now that the season’s over, you have the time and the energy to say, OK, let’s get the right ankle back, let’s get the shoulder back, let’s get the elbow back, and if we can do that, I feel like I got a new life ahead of me in pro football.” This isn’t a guy who backs down easily – he’s got a fire that won’t burn out just yet. Whether he’s playing for the Falcons or another team, his mentality is all about pushing forward.

After all, he’s never been one to give up, and that hunger will keep him going. The question is: where’s he headed next?

It could be a trade or a release, but either way, Cousins’ time in Atlanta feels like it’s over. With that $10M roster bonus looming, the Falcons are likely going to move on. Especially with the emergence of Penix as their clear future. And honestly, given Cousins’ past injuries and his uncertain future, the best move might be to let him go and save the cap space.

But that doesn’t mean Cousins isn’t going to land somewhere else and try to prove he’s still got plenty left in the tank. The man has always been about resilience, and whether it’s with the Falcons or a new team, he’s got a lot to prove. Stay tuned – coz it’s far from over for Cousins.
