Oh, what a bittersweet thing nostalgia is! It creeps up on you when you least expect it, tugging at your heartstrings. For Kirk Cousins and his wife, Julie, those warm (and sometimes painful) memories seem to have resurfaced thanks to a trip down memory lane—literally.
Julie Cousins took to Instagram to share a heartfelt moment, posting a photo of the townhouse they rented during their first four years of marriage.“After we were married, we rented this townhouse from Chris Samuels for 4 years!!! Fun to drive by and remember all we went through in that house… we learned how to be married, got benched and also became the starter, fostered 7 dogs, hosted gatherings and guests, dealt with deaths in the family and miscarriages, and welcomed Cooper into the world! It was a full 4 years!” If walls could talk, that house would surely have a lot to say!
Julie’s choice of CeCe Winans’ Goodness of God as the soundtrack for her story said it all. Through every challenge, every setback, and every hard-earned victory, they found reasons to be thankful through the ups and downs.

One of the biggest downs was Kirk, a developing QB for Washington at the time, getting benched. He was their starting quarterback for the first six games of the 2014 season. But in the week 7 game, things did not go his way. The Redskins were playing the Titans at the moment. And despite starting the game, Kirk Cousins was unable to complete it.
At halftime, the quarterback was benched, and Colt McCoy, the backup quarterback, came in. Interestingly, McCoy performed admirably in that game. In fact, the backup QB was so good that Kirk Cousins was benched for the remainder of the season. Something that can happen in this season, too.
Is Kirk Cousins going to be benched for the rest of the season?
It was a shocker for everyone when the Falcons decided to bench Kirk Cousins. This was the QB’s first year with the team, and well, it did not go as planned. While he signed a four-year-long $180 million contract, his performance has not been up to the mark. In 2024, the man only had 18 TDs, which is pretty below average, considering he has been the starting QB in 14 games. These things pushed the Falcons to bench the QB after week 15.

By Week 15, the team found themselves sitting at 7-7 with the playoffs looming large on the horizon. It was crunch time, and taking risks wasn’t exactly on their to-do list. But Kirk Cousins wasn’t having the best run leading up to this pivotal moment. Let’s just say his stat sheet wasn’t doing him any favors—five rough weeks, nine interceptions, and just one lonely touchdown. Yikes. With the pressure mounting, the team decided to roll the dice anyway. In a bold move, they swapped Cousins out for a rookie quarterback.

Michael Penix Jr, a first-round pick for the team, replaced Kirk Cousins as the starter QB. And in his debut game, he was unstoppable. Penix led his team to its 8th win of the season in a one-sided game against the Giants. While it was a tough game some legends think it was not that big deal. And because of these allegations, his real test is against the Washington Commanders.
Now, here’s where things get interesting. Cousins might be watching from the sidelines, but you can bet he’s not ready to fade into the background just yet. The guy’s been in this league long enough to know that fortunes can flip faster than a trick play!
