It just keeps getting worse for Kirk Cousins every week. Just when he had the perfect opportunity to turn things around as the starting QB with the Falcons facing his former team, the Vikings. The 36-year-old has squandered that golden chance as he threw 2 interceptions in his old stomping ground.

The team where he spent 6 seasons prior to joining the Falcons, Cousins could have shown them the magic they were missing from their offense. However, instead of proving himself to his old fans, Cousins gave more instances for them to laugh at. Well, going into Minnesota, Cousins already knew they wouldn’t cheer him up wearing a rival’s kit. So the Vikings fans gave what he knew was coming. They made it as hostile as possible by booing the Falcons QB off the park.

But not throwing a single TD for the fourth game running may have led to more questions being asked about his position on the team. And their former QB, Kurt Benkert, was the first one to lead the charge. He bashed the veteran for having a lack of mobility, “The Falcons’ defense lacks talent, but that’s not an excuse for all of the sack fumbles and short fields off of turnovers that come from a lack of mobility at the QB position.”

One of those two interceptions came into the first half. And the next one was even more brutal, as the game only had seven minutes remaining on the clock. His red zone interception confirmed the Falcons’ fourth straight defeat this season. Over the last four games, Cousins has turned the football over a whopping 8 times. And it’s not a surprise to see him leading the interception charts this season. The 36-year-old has 15 by his name after Sunday’s game.

However, his head coach, Raheem Morris, still refuses to bench him as the Falcons relinquish their top spot in the NFC South.

Raheem Morris refused to give up on Kirk Cousins after 4th straight defeat

What’s your perspective on:

Is Kirk Cousins the right QB for the Falcons, or is it time for a change?

Have an interesting take?

8 interceptions and no TDs over the last 4 games aren’t enough to drop a QB playing under Raheem Morris. Instead, the Falcons head coach continues to stand firmly beside his veteran QB, “Everything is always discussed when you go watch the tape, but Kirk Cousins is our quarterback. Kirk played significantly better than he did the week before. We’ll do whatever is best to win football games, and Kirk is definitely a part of that.” Talking about playing better, Cousins did complete 23-of-37 passes today. With a pass completion rate of 62.2% and passing yards of 344, Morris doesn’t want to focus on the negatives.

But it could be a sign of improvement as Cousins didn’t have such a pass completion rate over the last four weeks. No matter how many passing yards you have racked up, a team cannot win games without scoring TDs. And that seems to be a regular problem for Cousins, who said, “It’s been disappointing over the last four weeks to not have a touchdown pass.”

Even Morris talked about the same issues in their red zone struggles, as he said, “We have to execute better in the red zone. That’s something that we have to get better.” Speaking about getting better, time seems to be running out for the Falcons. With only a handful of games remaining, they need to turn things around quickly. Otherwise, their strong start to the season could go in vain because of this current slump.
