Last Sunday was horrifying for the Minnesota Vikings as QB Kirk Cousins suffered an Achilles injury. Now, the Vikings are considering trading the 23-year-old Trey Lance of the Dallas Cowboys. The Vikings think Lance is a potential QB for their team, given his age. Also, Trey Lance is still the QB3 for the Cowboys behind Dak Prescott and Cooper Rush, with no changes to the depth chart. However, there is no official confirmation from the Vikings regarding Lance’s trade to their team as a new QB. It’s no surprise that the Vikings reportedly thought about Lance. Per the source, the Vikings and 49ers discussed a Lance trade at this year’s NFL scouting combine, but those didn’t work out.

Now, it’s a fresh start with a probability to see consequential playing time with Minnesota for Lance. But alas, it looks like the Vikings only made it as a kicking the tires on a potential deal.
Lance considered just as initial testing
Minnesota made a move to acquire Joshua Dobbs from the Arizona Cardinals. They gave up virtually nothing in exchange. However, in that deal, the Vikings sent a 2024 sixth-round draft pick to the Cardinals for their QB and a 2024 conditional seventh-round pick. Additionally, Dallas has reason to value Lance behind just using him to flip.

Well, this development of him as a player makes him a long-term asset as Dak Prescott’s backup or might be something even more. But now, Lance continues to work for the Dallas Cowboys behind the other two QBs.
