Shannon Sharpe's right—how can the Eagles' defense let Kirk Cousins have all day to throw?

The Atlanta Falcons redeemed themselves in week 2 despite having a bad season opener. This time around, they went up against the Philadelphia Eagles and leveled the 2024 season trail so far, with both teams now at 1-1. While it is something that the Falcons should celebrate before their next match, the Eagles should instead focus on their defense.

This is not just our critical analysis. NFL veteran Shannon Sharpe blasted the defensive linemen of Philadelphia while giving his two cents on the September 15th game. He believes that one shouldn’t praise the Falcons’ offense without first criticizing the defense they were pitched against.

Sharpe sat with all of these hot takes on the show First Take and claimed that he wasn’t sold by the defenses that the Philadelphia Eagles put on display last weekend. This is why he thinks that the Falcons ‘took’ the game from them rather than ‘winning’ it.

I’m not sold on that defense. The Falcons did what they wanted to do,” said the retired tight end about their game. While he gave the Falcons their kudos, Sharpe still thinks that they were able to score because of the sloppy linemen who failed to pressure the quarterback into making quick, risky decisions. “They ran the ball at will. Kirk Cousins had all day to throw the football.

It is obvious what the NFL legend thinks of the Eagles’ defense and probably no good will come out of his mouth until he has seen their performance in the coming match. Likewise, Shannon Sharpe probably wouldn’t be impressed by the Falcons until they have shown their prowess in the upcoming game as well.

How hard will the Eagles and Falcons have to fight the odds?

Both the teams are headed into an exciting weekend if seen from a fan perspective. However, it might not be all fun and games for the team members because the teams that they will be facing on the coming Sunday are both doing excellently up until now. Eagles and Falcons, who are entering the third week with a 1-1 record, will face the Saints and the Chiefs, respectively. Both of the latter teams have an intimidating 2-0 trail following them. This means that both Philly and Atlanta would have to work hard and be very mindful of their play when going against these opponents.

Kansas City is the reigning Super Bowl champion and is keeping up with its image. While New Orleans isn’t big on the radar, it started off strong in the regular season and is now a force to reckon with. So far, Saints have wrecked both of their last opponents and Philadelphia may be next if they don’t improve their defense by this weekend. Falcons, on the other hand, may not receive a humiliating loss if they are able to penetrate the Chief Kingdom’s defenses and hold off against their praise-worthy offense.

What do you think the future has in store for both Eagles and Falcons?
