The Miami Dolphins are at the top of the AFC list. With an impeccable 9-3 record, the Phins have more than a 99% chance to make it to the playoffs. However, coach Mike McDaniel does not want to count his chickens before they hatch.

The Phins defeated the Washington Commanders 45-15 in the last game. With this win, they climbed to the top seed, leaving the Kansas City Chiefs to fall into the third. This is a time of celebration for the Dolphins, but McDaniel chose not to celebrate, revealing his thoughts on the Rich Eisen show.

Around three hours ago, Mike McDaniel joined the Rich Eisen Show to talk about this season and where the franchise is currently. When Eisen pointed out that the Phins now can celebrate as they are on the top and have the most chances to make it to the playoffs, coach McDaniel reserved himself not talking about their current situation.

The 40-year-old coach said, “I think the key to the end result that you’re talking about is not talking about it at all because it’s ironic, but it’s just one of those things like we are in a situation.” He said that currently, after 13 weeks, he’d be extremely excited if it were a 13-game season. He might have even taken his shirt off. However, it’s not, and McDaniels believes success comes with distraction.

He added that they have emphasized preparing for each opponent throughout the season, making a long-term perspective regardless of their opponents.

Meanwhile, the recent victory over the Commanders had led the team to break some historic records.

The Dolphins did it after 22 years!

With Sunday’s 45-15 win over the Commanders, the Dolphins achieved five records:

1. The Phins 9-3 record marks the first time they have achieved such a start since 2001.

2. Head coach Mike McDaniel becomes the third coach in franchise history to have winning seasons in his first two years with the team.

3. QB Tua Tagovailoa‘s impressive 141.0 passer rating in the game ranks as the second highest of his career and fourth best for any quarterback this season. He is now leading the 2024 Pro Bowl Games voting by football enthusiasts.

4. Wide receiver Tyreek Hill’s outstanding performance and extraordinary speed included four catches for 152 yards, making him the first player this season to record 150-plus receiving yards in the first half of a game. Additionally, he became the first Phins player since at least 1991 to achieve this feat. His performance also contributes to his status as the fifth Dolphins player to achieve three straight 100-yard games.

5. At last, the team’s 31 points in the first half and the overall 45 points tie for the fourth most in the team’s history and the seventh most in the team’s history, respectively.
