After Daniel Jones' flop, could Jayden Daniels be the Commanders' saving grace?

“I got Jayden Daniels.” American basketball power forward Kevin Durant’s got a sizzling hot take for Week 2. That’s right—KD’s all in on the rookie QB Jayden Daniels, and he’s throwing some serious shade at the Giants and their QB Daniel Jones

Durant’s tweet set the tone: “It’s my Commanders vs. the Giants.” And his bold prediction? “I feel like [the Giants] always have a number note regardless of how seasons are going. I’m never gonna bet on the Giants, will never do that. I got Jayden Daniels throwing two touchdowns, 60 rushing yards. Defense gets us a touchdown. 21-10.” Despite the shaky debut, KD’s backing Washington’s rookie QB. “You think the Giants can bounce back after a tough showing? I think Daniel Jones gonna be too conservative next week,” Durant added. The basketball superstar’s not just talking the talk; he’s been walking the walk as a Commanders’ fan for ages. His sentiment’s clear: Durant sees big things in Jayden Daniels.

Growing up in Prince George’s County, Maryland, the 35-year-old’s been a regular at Washington games and training camps. His passion got even hotter with new owner Josh Harris and the fresh faces of GM Adam Peters and HC Dan Quinn. But the real buzz? Rookie QB Jayden Daniels. Kevin Durant sees a bit of himself in the young rookie, calling him “the KD of college football.” Both have faced flak about their frames—Durant’s at 6-foot-11 and Daniels at 6-foot-4—but they share that slick combo of size and agility. Kevin Durant, aka “The Slim Reaper,” knows a thing or two about standing out.

Daniels’ first game was a wild ride. He nailed 17 of 24 passes for 184 yards, plus 88 rushing yards and two TDs. Sure, he mostly scrambled and missed a few throws, but he showed promise. By straight stats, Commanders’ star QB’s had one of the best rookie games—he completed 70.8% of his passes, racked up a slick 0.31 EPA per play on the ground, and scrambled like a cat on a hot tin roof 21.2% of the time. Plus, he had eight designed runs that kept defenses on their toes. Daniels’ debut against a tough Tampa Bay defense proved he can handle the heat. Now, with Week 2 on deck, it’s time for him to shine.

Meanwhile, Daniel Jones and the Giants are in a tough spot. Jones had a rough start, and Durant’s prediction adds extra pressure.

Daniel Jones needs to step up

Truth be told, Daniel Jones is not doing a great job. He’s slacking. But we’ve got the Giants’ ace—and the QB needs to start using him like one. Any guesses? WR Malik Nabers, yes. With New York’s matchup against Washington coming up, QB Jones should make Nabers his go-to guy. No excuses.

What’s your perspective on:

After Daniel Jones' flop, could Jayden Daniels be the Commanders' saving grace?

Have an interesting take?

Jones is taking a beating following the Giants’ brutal 28-6 loss to the Vikings. His shaky performance—marked by poor accuracy and hesitation—has people questioning if his starting gig’s in jeopardy. If Jones doesn’t step up, HC Brian Daboll might just pull the plug.

But Nabers (picked 6th overall) has made his mark with five catches for 66 yards. If Jones wants to avoid starting season 0-2, he needs to dial Nabers’ number more often. There’s a snag, though—the WR’s been experiencing knee pain. But if he’s healthy, he could be the spark the Giants need.

Jones’ stats lately are nothing to write home about. He’s thrown just 17 TDs in his last 23 starts—and 27 in his last 33. That’s a far cry from his rookie year, where he had 24 in 12 games.

You know, sometimes, it only takes one playmaker to change the game. For the Giants, that’s Malik Nabers. So, Daniel Jones, should throw him the ball and save the season!
