Kevin Durant praises Jayden Daniels—Is this the start of a new era for the Commanders?

The Washington Commanders are probably one of the most unsung tales of the NFL right now. What’s the deal with that? The 42-14 win against the Arizona Cardinals supports the theory that the Commanders did an excellent job in building their roster, thanks to GM Adam Peters, who implored them to get Jayden Daniels. He’s making a tsunami in the NFL right now.

Daniels completed more than 86% of his passes in the road game and got Kevin Durant’s attention. Well, not him, per se, but the whole Commanders did a fantastic job. The Phoenix Suns forward was celebrating his birthday at the Cards game but still didn’t take his favorite team’s defeat to heart. On the contrary, he had a positive message for the away team.

The weather was a scorching 107°F at the State Farm Stadium, and the Washington Commanders turned it up some more. Or at least that’s what Kevin Durant thought. His birthday post on X said, “Came to AZ and turnt that heat up @Commanders…great road win fellas.” Jayden Daniels continued to prove why he’s such a great dual-threat QB, and he was an integral part in turning the heat up.

Durant grew up around the D.C. area and has been a huge Commanders fan for a long time. So when he got an opportunity to join the Commanders ownership group, he couldn’t stop daydreaming about it. At least that was the case back in 2022 when Dan Snyder sold the team. Unfortunately, the NBA star couldn’t complete the transaction. However, he has a 5% stake in the Philadelphia Union of MLS and another minor stake in Gotham FC, but sadly not the Commanders.

Have an interesting take?

Know that there’s “a lot of money in D.C. to be made,” he said, “I mean, how long has he had it now — 20-something years?” Durant said. “He’s probably the only owner I’ve known since I’ve been alive for the Redskins/Commanders. So it’s definitely shocking to see him put them up because it’s his baby. NFL teams are precious, they’re important,” back in 2022. But while we’re on the topic of the Commanders, let’s talk about their offensive prowess in the game against the Cardinals. Interestingly, Kevin Durant also attended the Commanders’ practice before the game against the Cards.

It’s amazing to watch the Washington QB avoid unnecessary risks while spreading the ball around plenty. Washington fans might overlook the pick that Daniels threw after watching him go on a 9-yard TD run in the third quarter and then score another one in the fourth quarter on a 10-yard pass to Terry McLaurin.

All in all, Daniels went on an impressive run in the road game, completing 26 of his 30 passes for 233 yards. It’s crazy that the Heisman winner didn’t throw a pick before this game. This unparalleled passing precision has made him the best quarterback in the league over the past four games. Not the best rookie QB—the best QB. Let that sink in!

Also, Daniels has more touchdowns than incompletions, and the last game against the Bengals made him the first rookie ever to have more than a 90% pass completion rate in a game. However, Washington’s run game deserves some more attention.

Jayden Daniels is a fine addition to Washington’s rush game

The former LSU QB found 8 opportunities to carry the ball for 47 yards and even scored a TD on one of them. But let’s turn our eyes to the phenomenal job Brian Robinson Jr. and Jeremy McNichols did today. McNichols had the same number of carries as Daniels but scored two touchdowns and rushed for 68 yards. But don’t be fooled by the rushing stats.

His second-quarter 27-yard touchdown was a special thing to watch. It was as if he just stumbled in. The Commanders’ O-line did an absolutely insane job of holding off the defense as McNichols danced his way into the end zone on 2nd and goal. Maybe the Commanders’ strong suit is running the ball because none of their receivers had more than 86 yards.

Most of the carry opportunities went to Brian Robinson Jr., who carried the ball 21 times for 101 yards and found his way into the end zone once. With that, the Washington Commanders walked away with their third straight win and now stand atop the NFC East. The Commanders haven’t had a winning season since 2016, but things look different this time around.
