Super Bowl LIX had no shortage of wild moments—from the Eagles’ revenge tour to Patrick Mahomes’ struggles on the biggest stage. But somehow, one of the most unexpected storylines didn’t come from the game itself. It came from the halftime show.
A viral Reddit post set the internet ablaze with a jaw-dropping claim: Kendrick Lamar, during his Super Bowl halftime performance, covered more yards (145) than the entire Kansas City Chiefs rushing attack (49). Let that sink in. A rapper outpaced the defending champs—without a single defender trying to tackle him.

Well, they just rushed for 49 yards against the Eagles. As per the Statmuse, it’s the 13th fewest by a Super Bowl team. But let’s be real, it isn’t fair to the Chiefs. The reason? I mean, there wasn’t the Philadelphia team’s defense that tackled Lamar, right? But still, the 145 yards are pretty enough to compare both the high-energetic performance of Lamar and the underwhelming performance of the back-to-back Super Bowl champs.
At first glance, it seems like a ridiculous comparison. After all, Lamar wasn’t juking past defenders or dodging sacks. But when you break it down, the numbers start to make sense.
His halftime performance was one of the most elaborate in recent memory, featuring a massive multi-stage setup that spanned much of the field. With each transition—from the main stage to the side platforms to the center of the field—Lamar covered significant ground. Factor in his high-energy movements, choreography, and constant engagement with the crowd, and suddenly, 145 yards of movement doesn’t seem so far-fetched.
On the other side of things, the Chiefs’ rushing attack was practically nonexistent. They averaged just 2.7 yards per carry and failed to generate any momentum against an Eagles front that seemed to know their every move. While Lamar was commanding the field with ease, Mahomes and his offense were struggling to gain even a few feet at a time.

Patrick Mahomes’ offense struggled mightily
The Eagles entered the gridiron on Sunday to avenge their Super Bowl LVII loss against Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. But! They arguably erased the Kansas City team’s offense in a decisive 40-22 win. Before the final part of the game, the Birds had a 25% success rate against the Chiefs’ O-line. Safe to say that it was the worst offensive performance in the Super Bowl since 2000, when the Ravens defense dismantled the Giants‘ O-line.
And Mahomes? Well, you can say the QB was clueless throughout the game. Three turnovers—two picks and a fumble—on top of getting sacked six times? Yeah, it was a rough night for him. Not to mention that the six sacks were his career high, including the regular season and playoffs (just one short of the Super Bowl record of seven).
As for his tight end, Travis Kelce, the veteran, basically had the worst game of his career. The key offensive weapon of the Chiefs managed just four receptions for 39 yards, probably in his last Super Bowl game. Now, it’s safe to say that the Eagles’ defense straight-up dominated the game from start to finish.

Seven different Eagles defenders got a shot at Mahomes, and Philly didn’t even have to blitz to create pressure. 41% of the time, the pocket was collapsing on its own. And the run game? Well, y’all know pretty well about that. Practically nonexistent, having Kendrick Lamar outscored them in the rushing yards.
