The buzz around Stafford hit a high point this week at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. The Giants and Raiders are leading the race for his services. The Giants, in need of a franchise quarterback, have discussed a $90-$100 million contract with Stafford, as confirmed by The Post’s Paul Schwartz.
Stafford, the first overall pick out of Georgia in 2009, began his career in Detroit, where he and his wife, Kelly, started their family, raising four daughters.
Kelly, who married Stafford in 2015, addressed the trade rumors on her podcast, The Morning After. “I love the city of LA… and I love the life we’ve built here,” she said. “That being said, I love an adventure. I’m all for it. Right now, if the Rams decided they wanted to trade him. Or if Matthew decided he didn’t want to play for the Rams…” Seems like Kelly is ready to accept whatever comes to Stafford with grace.

The Giants haven’t landed Stafford yet, but he does have some connections to the team. His brother-in-law, Chad Hall, was hired as an assistant quarterbacks coach earlier this month, so there’s that link. Matthew’s return to the Rams feels like trying to find a new home for a Dodge—powerful, classic, but maybe in need of a fresh start.

Back in 2022, he signed a four-year, $160 million extension with the Rams, leaving him with two years remaining on that contract. However, the Rams haven’t disclosed the details of any new agreement.

Earlier, they had given Stafford’s camp the green light to explore potential deals with other teams. The Giants and Raiders were among those showing interest. But now, they might shift their focus to the 2025 NFL Draft for a new quarterback or explore the free-agent market. That market could feature big names like Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson, Justin Fields, and Sam Darnold.
Still, returning to the Rams feels like a homecoming for Matthew—and honestly, who can blame him?
