The offseason started with a bang for the LA Rams. Once they announced their intentions to trade their WR Cooper Kupp, their QB Matthew Stafford also joined the fray. Not only him, but even his wife, Kelly Stafford, also warned the franchise from trying to sabotage her husband’s career by trading him, claiming they weren’t afraid to move on. The Rams had signed a 4-year $160 million deal with the signal caller in 2022. But the HC Sean McVay brought peace. He ended the uncertainty about the QB playing in 2025. It also put an end to all the retirement murmurs.

The QB’s wife also explained her stance on his retirement plans on the March 6 episode of The Morning After Media show. While explaining her position, she said, “At the end of the day, this is his legacy. Now, obviously, he’s going to, and rightfully so, he’s going to say, no, being a husband and a dad is more important. I truly wanted to make sure that this was your decision. I attempted to remove myself entirely so that he could make that decision with just himself in mind. That didn’t work. But I will say like you could tell the excitement, and just the overall sense of like I get to play another year in the place that I want to play, for the coach that I want to play for.” That’s right. He chose to play another year.

It’s the only thing a footballer dreams of since childhood. Undoubtedly, retirement is not an easy option. The 49ers legend, Steve Young, remarked a few days back that it’s like a death. And every footballer who has been in the league for many years will miss this. But he also advised that you have to go through all the processes of death.

He got plenty of interest from other teams as well. The Raiders and Giants were talking to him. His chance meeting with the GOAT Tom Brady (Now the Raiders minority owner) even caused a conflict that erupted at the Starbucks outlet in Indianapolis between NFL’s Ian Rapoport and Fox’s Jordan Schultz. A hot property, Matthew Stafford, will play this year.

His 2024 season wasn’t too bad. Winning 10 of 16 games he started in, he had 340 of 517 passes (65.8% completion rate) in 3,762 passing yards with 20 TDs. Even in the divisional round against the Eagles, he had 2 TDs in 324 passing yards, but his fumble had them lose by 22-28.

Signing him for one more year gives the Rams some time to reconsider their options. But the QB was happy. Who would give up a chance to play in the NFL?

Amid this, the signal caller also revealed his plans. He remarked, “The team that I’m playing for, the Rams, [are] excited about me being a part of their team. And helping them lead the way. So it’s a cool thing. And hopefully, you know, we have a great season and get to figure it out again next year and continue to keep playing. We’ll see,” confirming her words by showing excitement at playing in 2025.

Matthew Stafford also wants to play as long as he can and his body allows it. HC Sean McVay also has a system around him that works well. Except for 2022, when he played only 9 games because of a spinal cord contusion, they qualified for the playoffs each year in the last 4 seasons. Overall, he has been healthy with no major injuries in the last 2 seasons.
