It’s that time of year when even those who missed the entire regular season are on the edge of their seats. Yep, it’s Super Bowl time, and everyone’s chatting about the possible 3-peat for the Chiefs. But a lot of fans feel it could be different this time for the Eagles. The atmosphere is electric, and you can sense we’re in for one of the best games of the year. And guess what? The shots have already started to fire, and this time they’re coming straight from the Eagles camp.
Yep, the Eagles offensive coordinator, Kellen Moore, has made it clear that he’s got some answers to Steve Spagnuolo’s defense. When ‘SportsRadio 810′ asked about the Chiefs’ defense, he said, “I think the defense is really tied together, they don’t make a bunch of mistakes. He’s gonna stress you, giving you some challenges that maybe you haven’t seen, but yeah, we’re prepared for those things.” And he’s not wrong! The Chiefs’ defense this year has been a force to reckon with, allowing only 17.6 points per game on average. On how he will tackle these challenges, Moore explained, “Prepare, prepare, prepare, for two straight weeks and there’s gonna be a couple of adjustments before the game and hopefully we prepare ourselves with some contingency plans to adapt to those”. Well, he’s not giving away much, though!

But if you look closer, Moore might be leaning toward a ‘Quick Passing Game’. If the Chiefs are bringing extra pressure, Moore could adjust to a quick passing game with short quick throws. He can include playmakers like DeVonta Smith and Dallas Goedert. That could be a great tactic to exploit the Chiefs’ secondary. And don’t forget about Jalen Hurts. Oh wait, he might use ‘Max Protect’ schemes with extra blockers to give Hurts more time in the pocket. So there are a lot of options, and Moore is just flirting with what he’s gonna do to counter Spags’ defense. And let me tell you, Spags has already been validated by an Eagles star.
Jalen Hurts reminds Eagles of the Spags challenge
Jalen Hurts also jumped into the discussion about the Eagles’ defense. “Coach Spags has always done a great job, I have a ton of respect for him,” said Hurts. And Spags has earned it. Since he joined the camp, the Chiefs have a massive 77-22 record. But he didn’t stop there; he talked about the defensive group too. He said, “They have great players, a great front seven. A great defensive back and a great defensive back group… a very disruptive group. It’ll be a great challenge for us.” I’m sure he’s talking about the trio—Trent McDuffie, L’Jarius Sneed, and Justin Reid. Just to put some numbers on it, these guys together have 9 interceptions and 30 pass deflections this season. So, Hurts knows quite well what he has to face on February 9th.

Everyone wants a tough fight, and reading all this, it looks like an impossible target. So, what could be the answer from the Eagles? How can you forget the red-hot favorite for MVP? It’s Barkley, who’s been killing it on all fronts this season. I mean it when I say this: he’s carrying the offense more than he carries the football this season. He outrushes the entire Chiefs’ RB unit combined by more than a dozen yards! He has hit the end zone 18 times, while the Chiefs’ backs only got there 11 times. So if you think it’s a cakewalk for Mahomes to wear his ‘3-peat’ crown, think again.
The talk is, and will be, about the ‘3-peat’ and it might also play in the minds of the Eagles’ players. But it goes both ways, as the pressure to make history will be more on the Chiefs than the Eagles. But what does history say when these two collide? Well, you know what happened in ’23, the heartbreak for the Eagles on the ultimate night. No need to rehash that. But overall, the Chiefs have a slight edge with a 6-5 record, including two Super Bowl wins. It’s pretty hard to predict, but yeah, there is an advantage to the Chiefs at this moment.
