Kellen Moore is not wasting any time getting his coaching staff ready for next season. Just days after filling up the Saints’ head coach vacancy, Moore has already sent a wish list to the hierarchy. Considering the Saints’ dire situation in cap space of $59.5M and only a 9th overall pick to work with. Moore isn’t letting any stone unturned in his quest to make his first head coach gig to be a success from the very beginning. As for the Saints, they have also got the message on whom they need to turn this organization around.

Of course, the Saints will be rejoicing in getting their hands upon the hottest protest in this year’s NFL coaching cycle. But Moore can’t turn things around himself. He needs the right men around him to get the Saints up and running again. So, to help Moore succeed, the Saints have already lined up a few interviews here and there. One of them is 49ers assistant HC Brandon Staley, who used to be a head coach himself from 2021-23. Staley was one of the worst head coaches the Chargers will probably never witness again.

He left the Bolts with a disastrous 24-24 record in three seasons. As for Moore, he knows Staley from his single season as OC of the Chargers in 2023. This time, it would be a role reversal if Staley does get hired as the DC of the Saints, as per Albert Breer’s reports. However, it won’t be an easy route to NOLA for Staley. His closest competitor for the position in New Orleans can be Eagles defensive backs coach Christian Parker. Fresh off winning a Super Bowl where his defense reigned supreme, Parker is also being considered for the Saints’ defensive coordinator vacancy. This would be a massive promotion for Parker who just entered the league in 2020 as the Packers defensive quality control coach.

Now, before Brandon Staley and Christian Parker, the Saints had already wrapped an interview with Vikings DBs coach Daronte Jones. So, it remains to be seen who can land the defensive coordinator position in New Orleans. And while the search for a DC goes on, there’s someone who has put forth his name as the Saints QB coach.

Possible reunion on the charts for Kellen Moore after taking the Saints job

Kellen Moore remembered in his introductory press conference how he visited the Saints as a pre-draft visit back in 2012. He may not have been a big name back then as no one from the Saints selected him. But there’s an NFL analyst on Fox Sports, The Facility, Chase Daniel, who remembers Moore visiting the Big Easy. Daniel used to be a backup QB for the Saints behind the legendary Drew Brees. So, considering his interaction with Moore Daniel was quick to put his name forward by asking the new Saints head coach, “Need a QB coach,” on social media.

See, the thing is, Andrew Janocko left New Orleans to join the Seahawks coaching staff. This means the Saints do have an opening in their QB coaching role. And Daniel, for one, could be a great addition considering his loads of experience. Yes, he couldn’t nail down a starting role from his time as QB.

What’s your perspective on:

Can Kellen Moore's bold moves turn the Saints' fortunes around, or is he in over his head?

Have an interesting take?

But Daniel was a trusted backup everywhere he went, from Commanders-then Redskins to the Chargers. Maybe he could also help soon-to-be 34-year-old Derek Carr, who had a horrendous 2024 season. Carr only managed to start 10 games because of his constant troubles with injuries. The Saints only won 5 while losing 5 more with Carr starting and 7 with backups Spencer Rattler and Jake Haener. This shows no matter whom the Saints bring in. They would have a lot to make this franchise relevant again.
