Picture this: A 36-year-old offensive wizard stands on football’s grandest stage, juggling Super Bowl glory and a career-defining promotion. Kellen Moore isn’t just calling plays for the Eagles—he’s dancing on the edge of a coaching whirlwind. The Saints, the last team without a head coach, are circling. But Moore? He’s playing it cool, even as the rumors roar louder than a Bourbon Street parade.

Moore’s stock soared in Philly. He transformed the Eagles’ ground game, leaning on Saquon Barkley and Jalen Hurts. “We just have an incredible group,” Moore told NFL Network’s Peter Schrager on Feb 3rd. “Certainly Saquon and Jalen, what they can do with the run game has been incredible.” The stats back it.

Philly ranked second in rushing yards per game (regular season and playoffs). Hurts’ interceptions plummeted from 15 to 5 under Moore’s guidance. Even rookie Will Shipley scored his first NFL touchdown, sparking a viral sideline celebration. “That shows who Saquon is,” Moore said. “The most excited he was all day was when Will scored.” But why New Orleans?

The Saints’ job isn’t for the faint-hearted. Their salary cap is tighter than a Mardi Gras crowd, and Derek Carr’s future looms. Yet Moore’s youth and offensive creativity fit a team needing patience. Former teammate Lance Moore admits Kellen was “reserved” as a player but believes he’s “grown into” leadership. Meanwhile, Adam Schefter notes Moore could “triple his salary” as HC. For a franchise craving stability, Moore’s rise—from Boise State record-setter to Eagles OC—offers hope. But here’s the twist.

The Saints can’t talk to Moore yet. NFL tampering rules forbid contact before Philly’s season ends. Remember 2023? The Cardinals lost a draft pick for tampering with Eagles DC Jonathan Gannon. New Orleans won’t risk it. Meanwhile, Moore’s preparing for Patrick Mahomes—and possibly assembling a Saints staff.

“[He’s] been working on it,” NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported. The Eagles, burned by coordinator departures before, hope focus doesn’t waver. Detroit’s Ben Johnson bolted post-playoff loss; Philly needs Moore locked in.

Is Kellen Moore the missing piece for the Saints, or should he stay loyal to the Eagles?

Schefter’s stamp of certainty

Moore is “in the driver’s seat” for the job, per CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones. ESPN’s Adam Schefter doubled down Monday. “Barring a setback, he’s gonna be the guy,” Schefter declared on The Pat McAfee Show. New Orleans can’t officially hire him until after Super Bowl LIX, but the groundwork is laid.

Three candidates already withdrew, leaving Moore and Dolphins DC Anthony Weaver as finalists. According to Schefter, Mickey Loomis has taken steps and will do “everything in his power, when it comes to this coaching hire, to follow the rules.” Translation: The Saints are waiting, but they’re ready.

Schefter compared Moore’s situation to Josh McDanielsColts debacle but stressed it’s not likely to crumble. Moore’s Eagles tenure—reviving Hurts, unleashing Barkley—proved he’s ready. Now, New Orleans offers a blank canvas… with cap headaches. “They’re waiting to talk to Kellen Moore,” Schefter said. “They’re waiting to make sure they give the Eagles absolutely zero evidence that they’ve tampered with the guy until after the game.” And Philly fans know this song.

Frank Reich and Shane Steichen left after Super Bowl runs. Now Moore joins the list. His legacy? A dominant run game and Hurts’ MVP-caliber season. But the Saints’ allure—a historic franchise in a city he’ll already be in for the Super Bowl—is irresistible. As Moore walks onto the Caesars Superdome field Sunday, he’ll eye two prizes: a ring and a new office. Win or lose, his flight home might be one-way.

Kellen Moore’s story is NFL poetry. A backup QB turned coaching prodigy, now steps from his biggest role. If things go according to plan… the Saints get a visionary; the Eagles lose a maestro. But in a league where tomorrow isn’t promised, Moore’s ready to write his next chapter—under the bright lights of New Orleans. “It’s a tough place to play,” Moore smirked about the Superdome. Soon, he’ll make it tougher for visitors.
