Patrick Mahomes’s team is facing a fourth and long situation. The Super Bowl loss was brutal for them. However, this time, it’s not about that game. It’s about the war between KC and Missouri to bring the Chiefs and the MLB team Royals to Kansas City. After a failed tax vote in April last year, things might change for both the teams. But wait! Wherever has been updated a couple of days ago might not be true.
On February 21, Starcade Media on X shared a post featuring Representative Sean Tarwater of Kansas making a statement on KC getting Chiefs and Royals. As per the post, Tarwater said, “We Are Currently In Negotiations And Very Close To Bringing One Team Over, Maybe Two.” He affirmed that finally Kansas will be getting one team at least, if not both at the moment. But a new report suggests that it might be a lie!
The Starcade Media reshared the tweet, but this time while sharing a new comment from Quinton Lucas, the Mayor of Kansas. As the earlier post created a buzz on social media, one fan tagged Lucas and Missouri State Governor Mike Kehoe, asking – “are you going to let this happen?” To which, KC Mayor replied, “Nah. Dude just talking.”

The Mayor straightaway rejected the Representative’s statement, hinting that nothing has been finalized yet between the states. But without any doubt Kansas is expecting to work hard to gain at least one of the teams, either Patrick Mahomes’s Chiefs or the MLB Royals to their side.
But time is ticking down for Kansas to get what they want. Hence, it remains to be seen what’s going to happen next as Patrick Mahomes’s team and the entire Chiefs community is preparing for this home battle.
Will Patrick Mahomes’s Chiefs go into KCK or remain in KCMO?
Patrick Mahomes and his family moved into their sprawling mansion in Belton, Missouri, in 2023. He was pretty sure that KCMO was going to be his home forever. However, things are changing quickly with KCK eyeing a team to bring into their facility and stadium. Even for Clark Hunt, Arrowhead holds a special place in his heart. It’s because his father, Lamar Hunt, also played football there. So, obviously it won’t be easy for them to adapt to a new place easily, despite their welcoming love from anywhere in that US State.

However, we can’t deny the fact that Kansas and Missouri are locked in a tug-of-war. After Sean Tarwater dropped the bombshell saying the state is “very close” in their possession, it has created tensions on the other side, be it true or not. He made the statement right as lawmakers debated pulling funds meant for the effort. Over in Missouri, officials are feeling the heat. Time is slipping away, and they know they have to act fast if they want to keep the teams where they are. No doubt, Kansas is throwing big money at this. They’re using STAR Bonds, which let the state cover 70% of the stadium costs, paying it back over 30 years with tax revenue.
So, the deadline is June 30, but an extension is possible. Nevertheless, the Chiefs and Royals are tied to their current lease at Truman Sports Complex until 2031.
