In October last year, the Chiefs owner Clark Hunt shocked everyone by announcing his plans for the future of the Chiefs stadium, Arrowhead. He understood their team was a fan favorite. And he’s doing everything to capitalize on that. Amid all these developments, an important deadline is coming for the franchise. Their lease for the Arrowhead ends in February 2031. But there’s a twist.
Kansas State rep. Sean Tarwater sent shockwaves in the Chiefdom by revealing that they were in talks with not only one, but with both Kansas City teams. The NFL side Kansas City Chiefs and the MLB team Kansas City Royals. He said, “We are currently in negotiations and very close to bringing one team over, maybe two.” That would be epic.

For Clark Hunt, Arrowhead is a special place. He grew up watching games there with his father, Lamar Hunt, and also played football there. But looks like he is finally leaving emotions behind to decide the future. The Arrowhead requires either comprehensive renovations to add 25 years or a total rebuild.
However, with the update, the Kansas State rep. has sent shockwaves in Missouri. While the future trajectory of the NFL franchise is not certain, the MLB team is also looking for a way out by 2028. Their plan to invest $300 million for the rebuild, later extended to $500 million, was rejected by Jackson County last April.
Contrastingly, with their plans being successful, the Chiefs could be very well on their way out to Kansas. It would be heartbreaking for many. But they have plenty of fans at the new location as well.
Clark Hunt hints at the rumored move
The update comes after 4 months of the Chiefs owner suggesting that the Chiefs could have a different training facility and stadium. He said in October last year, “We’ve been working on creating some options, not only for the stadium but also for (potentially) a new training facility. We’ve been looking at a lot of sites on both the Kansas and Missouri sides.”

Clark Hunt is stepping into his father’s shoes to think it over. They also met with many local leaders to scout a new location, but that also fell flat. Since then, he is doing what his father did almost 6 decades ago, moving the team from the Cotton Bowl in Dallas to Municipal Stadium in Kansas City in 1963, before another shift to Arrowhead in 1972.

He has a diverse background in sports administration, working in soccer as well. So, the move would be well planned. But he also stated that they are trying to finalize the new spot well before the lease ends in 2031. The mystery of the Chiefs’ new stadium will be intriguing.
