Kansas City Chiefs was gearing up for the grand parade to celebrate the third victory in five seasons. But an unexpected disaster turned it into a bitter experience. Despite tight security by officials, a shooting near the city’s Union Station led to the death of one individual and injury of 21 people. This exceedingly horrendous act then received heartfelt prayers from the Chiefs and the players of the side.

The incident stunned the whole NFL community, with each latest update coming in. The Children’s Mercy Hospital detailed how 11 of the victims are young children, and multiple of them have gunshot wounds. Amidst the horrific scenes, other league teams joined the Red Army to extend their support and raise voices regarding the heinous issue.

NFL teams convey their prayers to the victims of the incident

Hours after this unexpected act, the Red Army updated an apologetic and remorseful post, stating, “We are saddened by the senseless act of violence that occurred outside the Union City.” Later on, other teams from the NFL joined in to extend their prayers to the fans of the city and the people affected by the incident. The Baltimore Ravens wrote on their page, “Our hearts are with Chiefs Kingdom following the tragic events and shocking violence that occurred during the celebration.”

They were further joined by Broncos stating, “Our hearts go out to the victims, their families, and all Chiefs kingdom today following the senseless act of violence.” The Las Vegas Raiders also joined in to remark, stating that they were extremely sad about the tragedy and providing condolence to the victims. Other teams, like the Minnesota Vikings, Jaguars, Panthers, Jets, and Patriots, echoed the same sentiment. And they extended their thoughts for any harm caused during the parade.

This incident was an unexpected occurrence in the middle of the celebration. KC Police Chief Stacey Graves explained the shooting toll at a news conference and revealed that three people had been taken into custody. This incident saddened her as she said, “ I’m angry at what happened today. The people who came to the celebration should expect a safe environment.” 

Other than the teams, the QB of the side, Patrick Mahomes, was among the first few people to extend his prayers to the victims of the unfateful day. The predicament led to him and other players sharing their condolences.

Patrick Mahomes and others extend their condolences

The quarterback sent his heartfelt support to the Kansas City Community following this terrifying incident during the Super Bowl parade in downtown Kansas City, Missouri, this Wednesday. Mahomes took to his X account, stating, “Praying for Kansas City,” shortly after the incident occurred. He further reposts an update from his teammate Drue Tranquill, which reads, “ Please join me in the prayer for all the victims in this heinous act.”

Even the former soccer player Brittany Mahomes shared a heartfelt message on her Instagram, stating, “Praying for Kansas City and America in general.” Per Chiefs trainer Rick Burkholder, the entire Chiefs crew, including coaches, players, and staff members, were on buses and returning to Arrowhead Stadium. While the exact mind behind the incident is yet to be revealed, the KC officials are continuing with their investigation, providing regular updates via various mediums.
