The Kansas City Chiefs did some hefty shopping in the 2024 NFL Draft. With receivers, tackles, TEs, and centers, the Chiefs left no stone unturned and spent more than $40 million on upgrading their roster. Among the 7 players, the KC team drafted, Xavier Worthy, and Kinglsey Suamataia were some of the most noticeable names.

With these expenditures, the Chiefs will be keeping receipts because, when it comes to protecting Patrick Mahomes, the team doesn’t cut corners. Perhaps that’s also the reason why they didn’t hesitate to pay Chris Jones an extravagant amount. But leaving the old players aside, the new ones are in for quite a heavy amount.

After the Chiefs got the 28 overall pick from the Bills, they didn’t hesitate, wasted no time, and drafted Xavier Worthy. Per Spotrac, the Chiefs signed Worthy for a 4-year rookie deal that is valued at $13.1 million, with an AAV of about $3.2 million a year and a signing bonus of $6.3 million. This is the most expensive draft signing done by the Chiefs in the draft.

Next is Kinglsey Suamataia, a second-round pick. The Chiefs got this pick from the 49ers and drafted the tackle at the 63 overall pick. His contract is valued at about $6.3 million, with an AAV of $1.5 million and a signing bonus of $1.4 million. In the post-draft interview, he revealed that he will protect Patrick Mahomes at any cost.

The Kansas City team didn’t have a third-round pick but drafted 2 players in the 4 round. The TE Jared Wiley and Safety Jaden Hicks. Travis Kelce is getting older by the day and the Chiefs need to find a replacement for him and train him under Kelce’s wing. Wiley, as a rookie, might be a perfect fit for that. He got a $4.72 million contract, which will give him a yearly payout of about $1.8 million, as well as a signing bonus of $700,000.

The Kansas City team was also struggling with their safety position. Though they have veterans like Justin Reid and Chamari Conner who joined the team during the 2023 season, their safety needs some reinforcement. Hence, they hired Jaden Hicks, the rookie for a $4.7 million contract that comes with a bonus just short of $700,000. The Super Bowl LVIII winning team has some other players as well.

The Chiefs went all in on the 2024 NFL Draft

The Kansas City team found Hunter Nourzad, a center out of Penn State, for whom they will be paying a contract worth $4.3 million. The Chiefs got this pick from the Dallas Cowboys in the fifth round. The reason for his signing might be the fact that he has experience playing left guard, right guard, and right tackle before he finally shifted to playing center. His varied experience and smart plays are something that might help the Chiefs in the future.

The team also got Kamal Hadden, a CB out of Tennessee, with whom they agreed to a $4.1 million deal that comes with a signing bonus of $138k. That’s because the team recently let go of L’Jarius Sneed and needed a cornerback urgently. Hadden doesn’t come with a lot of speed, but his zone coverage and ball production are something to keep an eye on. This was their sixth-round pick.

In the 7 round, the team got CJ Hanson (G) from Holy Cross, who the Chiefs will sign to a $4.1 million deal with an AAV of $1.02 million and a signing bonus of $81k. He played 38 games as a starter and is known for his quickness in the run game. He is listed as a left guard and might play besides Joe Thuney and Mike Calliendo. All these signings are standard 4-year deals, and the Chiefs hope to make it easy for their offensive players in the future.
