Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs’ legacy is on the line after they lost a handful of games against some unassuming teams in the last leg of the 2023 regular season. Though the team made it to the playoffs, there are still questions about Mahomes and whether he will be able to “flip the switch” and overcome the mistakes the Chiefs have made repeatedly.

In the latest edition of his eponymous podcast, Rich Eisen talked about what he and his co-hosts think about the Chiefs’ quarterback. The constant missed passes, increase in the number of sacks, and receivers fumbling and dropping the passes have led the fans not to put their money on the Chiefs anymore. Will they be able to fix these underlying problems?

Rich Eisen asked, “What’s more likely: the Chiefs flip a switch, or they don’t flip the switch?” Eisen then pointed out the scenarios the Chiefs will have to go through in their next game as they are locked in as the third seed. As the third seed, they will most likely be playing against the Miami Dolphins if they clinch the sixth seed following a loss to the Bills. Eisen also pointed out the possibility of the Chiefs against the Buffalo Bills or even the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Amid the confusion about what “flipping the switch” meant, Eisen clarified that he wanted to know how likely the Chiefs were to overcome their shortcomings. He then pointed out dropped catches by Travis Kelce and Marquez Valdes-Scantling and even highlighted issues with the O-Line and Kadarius Toney. One of the hosts, TJ Jefferson, had an interesting take on the situation.

Jefferson banked on Patrick Mahomes and said that unless he saw the QB “falter,” he believed the Chiefs could “flip the switch” and win games. However, Eisen intervened and clarified that he wanted to know whether the Chiefs could fix their shortcomings and not Mahomes could carry them.

Fans have a lot of trust in Patrick Mahomes, and he’s proved repeatedly that he’s got what it takes to turn things around.

A lot is on the line for Mahomes and Co. because the next major game they play against the Dolphins, the Bills, or even the Steelers will be a prime-time contest played in front of millions. On top of that, Mahomes and the Chiefs have a legacy to safeguard, which might motivate them.

However, Chris Brockman of the show had a different take on the situation upon finally understanding Eisen’s question. He believed that as far as winning the Super Bowl or even getting to it was concerned, the Chiefs would unlikely be the ones to “flip the switch.” Brockman dubbed Mahomes a “modern-day Tom Brady,” justifying the motivation behind protecting his legacy.

Eisen presented a sentimental side to the story as well. Within a short time in his career in the league, Mahomes managed to clinch a Lombardi Trophy. However, this year is not going so well for him and if he gets a Super Bowl this year, it will lead to a new era of greatness for the QB as he defeats all the odds.
