It’s ironic how even after winning the Super Bowl the Kansas City Chiefs are in an offensive crunch. A lot of botches from Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Kadarius Toney led the team to put their trust in Rashee Rice. But even though he led the team in receiving yards, Rice has a lot on his plate right now. Hence many are speculating that the Chiefs don’t have a WR to rely on for 2024 and 2025 seasons.

The KC Sports Network posted a video on X explaining the Chiefs’ situation and hypothesizing on an alternate solution for their quandary. The Chiefs has a total of 7 picks in the upcoming draft and the most notable one is the 32 pick from the first round. How would they make use of it?

KC Sports Network posted a video on X and spoke out about the WR conundrum and how Patrick Mahomes might have a problem with a 3-peat with a significantly weak offense this year. Sure, the team signed Marquise Brown, but that’s just for a year. A long-term solution is nowhere in sight as of now.

Talking about Kadarius Toney, he played 13 games last season and had 169 yards and a single touchdown to show for the whole season. Sky Moore is in a similar situation with 14 games played and 244 yards and 1 touchdown in the 2023 season. Moreover, Moore took a knee injury in week 15 of the 2023 season. Though he is active right now, his future involvement remains cryptic at best.

Another prospect to name here is Justin Watson, who has 1,033 yards to show for in his 5-season career. Even though he played 16 games in 2023, he had 460 yards and 3 touchdowns to show. The only favorable option for the Chiefs was Rashee Rice with 938 yards and 7 touchdowns, a respectable season indeed. But due to the complications in his life, things don’t look as bright.

Potential solutions for the Chiefs

Now, they have two potential solutions, either recruit a promising candidate in the draft or add a veteran to their squad. In the video, the host speculated, “I think they’re going to add a veteran after the draft and say no, we’re not cool with Kadarius Toney, Skyy Moore, Justyn Ross, just basically being shepherded into their spots again this year.”

He then added, “We need competition, we need somebody to push them, and we need to feel a lot more confident about our wide receiver room heading into 2024 and 2025. Because as it stands right now, you can’t go into 2025 and say okay Patrick you got Rashee Rice and that’s it. That’s not how this is going to work.” And the Chiefs’ latest signing shows some promise. Yes, Mr. Hollywood Brown!

Marquise Brown had his best season in 2021 with the Ravens where he had 1,008 yards and 6 touchdowns. That was the height of his career. It is not a surprise that the Chiefs will have to act quickly and utilize their 32 draft pick before they lose their chance to draft a credible WR.
