The Christmas showdown between the Chiefs and the Raiders broke records! The teams faced each other this Christmas at Arrowhead Stadium. However, this time, victory was not on the Chiefs’ side. The Patrick Mahomes-led squad failed to maintain their six-time win record against their long-time rivals as the Raiders roared to a victory against them. However, the high number of viewers has left NFL enthusiasts surprised.

Mahomes’ squad met the Raiders for the third time this year. But the Christmas game came as a heartbreak to the Chiefdom. They could not make this work this time and lost with a scoreline of 14-20. However, Mahomes’ effect remains spot on, as evidenced by the 29 million viewers.

The Chiefs-Raiders showdown reached an impressive milestone!

NFL reporter Dov Kleiman shared some stunning news on his Twitter page. In his update on X, he reported an exciting matchup between the Chiefs and the Raiders, which drew a massive audience this Christmas. According to the post, the game was watched by over 29 million people on CBS Sports and Nickelodeon, making it the most-watched game since 1989. The post reads, “NFL Ratings: Christmas Day game on CBS Sports & Nickelodeon had 29+ million viewers. It was the most-watched Christmas Day game since 1989.”

The many viewers show that both teams have a significant fan following. Surprisingly, this game ended up being completely different from before. Kansas City lost their first game against the Raiders since Mahomes’ 2020 victory; he had previously won six games against them. During the fifth week of the 2020 showdown, the Raiders and Chiefs went head-to-head at Arrowhead Stadium. Despite their efforts, the Raiders couldn’t secure a victory, resulting in a 40-32 score and a five-game losing streak. Now the question arises: what went wrong in this matchup of the Chiefs and the Raiders?

Mahomes vs. Raiders: What went wrong

During the Christmas showdown, both teams struggled offensively. Kansas City had a tough time in the first half of the match, recording only 18 yards. They had one of their worst performances, which disappointed their fans. Although they seemed to get back into form in the second quarter, with quarterback Isiah Pacheco performing well, the Raiders stole the show with two touchdowns. The Raiders also had an impressive defense, with Maxx Crosby and Malcolm Koone making some fantastic plays that left the Chiefs struggling to keep up.

Moreover, the Raiders RB squad, led by Zamir White, was the show’s top performer of the day, as he made 145 yards on 22 carries, making Chiefs run the game in the deep struggle. However, the Chiefs still have a chance to prove their prowess in the upcoming matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals. What are your thoughts on that?
