QB Patrick Mahomes and HC Andy Reid‘s criticism of officials on WR Kadarius Toney’s offside call has cost them heavily. Toney was called offside with just 87 seconds remaining in the game. In the Chief’s loss against the Bills 20-17, this moment could have resulted in a potential TD for the Red Army. This surprising call by the officials, however, affected the game and left Mahomes and Reid visibly furious.

Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid let their issues with the officials out in the open during the match and post-match pressers too. This has come in direct violation of a rule that doesn’t allow criticism of game officials in public. Rightly so, the duo has been fined a hefty amount for the violation. On the other hand, days after the incident, Kadarius Toney broke his silence on the offside call.

After the controversial incident, Toney has made his point clear. However, an article in ‘Bleacher Report” sheds light on his stance. Toney pointed out that if he is not lined up correctly, then the officials got a job to let me know.” He further called out the referee and said that he didn’t make no effort” in letting him know that this could result in an offside.

24-year-old WR further clarified that the official did this on purpose; he said, You watch the video; he didn’t make an effort to say anything about no alignment. So apparently, he wanted to do that regardless. The incident has made the team let out their anger over the decision, as it cost them the game. Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid’s public outburst became the reason to get fined for the same.

Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid must pay for breaking the rules

It is prohibited by the NFL to criticize any game official or any decision in public. Knowing the rules very well, Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid still did the same, as the decision cost them their second consecutive loss of the season. For the same reason, Reid has been fined $100,000, and Mahomes has been fined half the amount of $50,000.

Mahomes, however, was fined for one more reason, as he broke the rules that prohibit the use of abusive, threatening, and abusive language towards game officials.
