The Vikings‘ quarterback situation needs to be addressed quickly. This is a crucial decision that they are making in the early off-season, and it will most definitely affect their entire 2025 season. Right now, they can go in two directions: re-signing Sam Darnold or going with JJ McCarthy. The problem is that McCarthy lacks expertise, and the decision on Darnold is still on hold. But, in between this important situation, do you know who is sitting back and relaxing? It’s WR Justin Jefferson. Who, by the way, has an interesting take on the situation.
Every NFL team must have a great QB-WR combo. And we have already seen what Darnold and Jefferson can accomplish together. But it does not appear that the Vikings’ main wide receiver is thinking about his former quarterback at all. He recently gave an interview to the Athletic in which he expressed his views on the matter. Jefferson confessed that he does not look forward to anyone throwing balls at him. He is confident in his abilities and believes he will perform admirably.

Justin Jefferson explained how he is one of those player who can play with anyone of the two QBs. He stated, “Luckily, that ain’t my decision. I’m sitting back, and I’m waiting for all of these decisions to be made, I’m really just showing up and being myself and making the plays that I make. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing what we’re going to do with Sam if we’re going to bring him back. Of course, J.J. is going to have his opportunity to make some plays and to see if he’s going to be the starter.”

With 103 receiving for 1533 yards, Jefferson showed that his pairing with Sam Darnold was truly dynamic. But JJ McCarthy is not someone who is less as the man is like a pocket dynamite. He has a stunning 27–1 record as a starting quarterback in NCAA Division. This record is the best scene in the CFB since 1971. How can he be sitting on the bench?
While Darnold’s stats from last year were excellent, there is less possibility of the Vikings re-signing him. The reason is all the lucrative contracts the QB is getting right now. No one is sure whether the team will lock him in or if are they going to hang in the middle for some more time. But one thing is certain: the team is frustrating JJ McCarthy with their ongoing confusion. Let’s take a deep look at this too.

The Vikings’ problem over Sam Darnold may impact JJ McCarthy’s approach
It’s obvious that players get frustrated when they are not getting chances. And that could be the case for JJ McCarthy right now. The 22-year-old quarterback is exceptional and has the potential to truly make his team’s offense unstoppable. But McCarthy, meanwhile, is not receiving much attention simply because the squad has a more experienced player in a swing-and-a-miss position.

JJ is a very remarkable talent, and using him solely as a backup to Darnold is totally wrong. Some reports even indicate that the young quarterback wants to prove himself, which is why he is vying for the starting quarterback position. And there is a good likelihood that he will receive it this season. The reason for this is the continuing bidding war among teams for Sam Darnold.

There have even been numerous reports that Sam Darnold may not re-sign with the Vikings. The quarterback is even in talks with other prominent organizations about where he could play. But this implies that the Vikings and head coach Kevin O’Connell will need to make a rapid decision about what to do with him.
Darnold is being pursued by three teams: Tom Brady‘s Raiders, the Titans, and the Giants. This implies the Vikings have little time left to make a decision. With everything going on, what do you think the squad will do? Tell us in the comments below.
