Justin Herbert had to wait for a couple of years to make up for his first postseason loss, but the wait was worth it. I mean, honestly, he can thank Quentin Johnson, who secured 13 passes for over 180 yards against the Raiders and helped the Chargers clinch a number 5 seed in the AFC. But the job isn’t done yet for him.
Herbert will return to the second week of January with yet another wild card round and this time the opponent is Houston Texans. So, how far is he gonna take the Chargers this time? Ask the Super Bowl champion, Jeff Saturday, because he has an interesting answer for you. Spoiler alert for the Chargers fans: you’re not gonna like it. “They potentially beat Houston this week,” Jeff said. “And then they play I think Kansas City the following week, they’re not beating Kansas City.”
But wait, before coming to the Chiefs, let’s not forget that the Chargers still need to beat the Texans. Though Jeffs thinks this is a tough job for the Los Angeles team. “Even Houston is going to be a tough one for them….this team is way ahead of where I thought they would be with Herbert’s playing well,” Jeff continued. “But I don’t think they have a chance to go to a Deep Run in the playoff.

So harsh, huh? Jeff Saturday on Justin Herbert’s Chargers, right? Just a heads up though, Herbert and the Chargers were impressive this year compared to what we call an embarrassing last season. The 26-year-old QB piled up nearly 4,000 yards while racking up 23 touchdowns. Strong enough to lead your team to the number 5 seed with 11-6.
But the thing is, Herbert will enter the wild card round with this previous postseason game’s horror. Yeah, the same game that set some historical moments in its way. Not for the Chargers, though!

Justin Herbert’s disaster looms around ahead of Texans clash
Let’s rewind to a couple of years to TIAA Bank Field. The same stadium that witnessed one of the biggest comebacks in postseason history. I mean, after a one-sided first half against the Jaguars with 27-0, the Chargers only managed to add just 3 points. And what about the Jaguars? They added 31 points and clinched a historic triumph against Herbert and Co.
The start was solid, but at the end of the day, it’s the ending of the game that matters. Despite 23 completions out of 43 attempts for 273 yards and racking up 1 TD, Herbert felt short of 3 points. Fast forward to now, no one’s talking about how horrible the Jaguars played in the first half that day just because they pulled out that insane play to win it all.

It appears to be pretty clear why Jeff Saturday is not confident of the Chargers getting deep in the playoffs. Because, no matter how well Herbert and the Chargers have played this season, that disastrous loss must be looming in one corner or another of his head. But hey, that doesn’t mean the turnaround is only limited against him. Who knows if they end up in opposition to the Chiefs who have already earned a first-round bye?
