The Atlanta Falcons have shocked the free agency market with an inspired deal with the QB Kirk Cousins. This massive contract has sent ripples throughout the football world. However, former Super Bowl winner Shannon Sharpe considers it a mistake!

The former Minnesota Vikings QB is still on the injury list. But that did not stop the Falcons from acquiring his services. With this deal all but done, what is next for another Falcons hopeful Justin Fields?

After being injured in the Week 8 game last season, Cousins had been unable to take to the field for the Vikings. With no contract extension in sight, free agency was going to be the 4X Pro Bowler’s future. However, that did not last long as the Falcons broke the bank to sign the 35-year-old veteran QB. The deal is for 4 years, worth $180 million, and $110 million of that is guaranteed.

However, the former Denver Broncos tight end Sharpe does not agree with this valuation. He takes account of Cousins only being able to win one playoff game in his 12 years of professional football. “For one playoff win”, said Sharpe looking at Cousins’ payment per his playoff record.

That is not all, as Sharpe considers the move for another free-agent QB would have been better. “I would have bet a pretty penny that Justin Fields would be a better fit in Atlanta than Cousins”, said Sharpe on his podcast ‘Nightcap’. This raises the question of what is next for Fields now.

Justin Fields is looking for a new employer

Fields was considered one of the favorites to sign with the Falcons. However, that ship has now sailed. And Cousins has made his bag. It is now turn for the supremely talented 25-year-old to do so as well. After failing to agree to a deal with the Chicago Bears, Fields is now firmly one of the best available players in the free agency!

And several of the top franchises are circling him. According to the reports, the Philadelphia Eagles are looking to get him as the backup for Jalen Hurts. This could be a great learning experience for the young QB. But the likes of the Vikings and the New England Patriots are also reported to be knocking on his door.
