Fontenot discusses Falcons’ evaluation process

Terry Fontenot didn’t wholly reveal everything. In a recent interview clip shared by Steve Wyche on his X account, Terry Fontenot addressed questions about the Falcons’ interest in QB Justin Fields. Not to mention, they had previously bypassed Fields in the 2021 draft. When asked about Fields, Fontenot talked about the importance of continuous evaluation.

He said, “You know we cannot talk about players on rosters. If I answer that question Steve… We’re gonna lose a draft pick. That’s why you evaluate players at every point in their careers.” He highlighted the necessity of assessing players’ evolution, stressing the need for recent reports to gauge their current status. He added, “You’re never going to look at a report from last year or the year before. We’re going to look at the evolution of players. So, yes. We have to be detailed and evaluate players in every phase.”

Furthermore, Fontenot went ahead and drew parallels between evaluating players and people.

He said, “It’s the same way with people. You can have someone that you know at a certain point in their career as a coach. Now, three or four years later: where are they at this point in their career? We all grow and adapt.” Moreover, the Chicago Bears’ president, Kevin Warren, praised Fields.

Fields is the talk of the town now! In a recent interview with WGN News, Bears president/CEO Kevin Warren praised Justin Fields. He praised his talents and work ethic.

Warren showed his support by saying, “I’m a supporter of Justin because I got a chance to work with him when I was Commissioner of the Big Ten conference.” He noted Fields’ intelligence and dedication and described him as “incredibly talented” and “smart.”
