Justin Fields didn’t come to New York to be a footnote. He’s already lived that story—Chicago’s chaos, Pittsburgh’s purgatory. Now? He wants a system, a spotlight, and a line that won’t crumble like cheap scaffolding. The Jets think they can give him that. But make no mistake—signing a quarterback is easy. Building a team around one? That’s the hard part. And right now, the Jets are racing against the clock to make sure Fields doesn’t become just another name lost in the league’s QB shuffle.
The Jets, with recruiting Fields, might have addressed their QB needs. But just bringing in a QB won’t fix everything overnight. If they want him to cook this season, they’ve got to build the kitchen first. New York has to start with bringing in an offensive lineman. Analysts around the league believe that the new GM, Darren Mougey, should spend the team’s early draft capital on a tackle. Because no matter how good Fields can be on the gridiron, if he’s getting sacked every other play, it’s game over.
On the O-line, the team has a few pressing needs: a WR after Davante Adams left, and an offensive lineman. And they’ve got the No. 7 pick in the first round. The name that analysts believe would fit right is the Missouri Tigers’ Armand Membou. Recently, on NFL Network’s Mock Draft Finale, the analysts discussed the Jets’ urgency to prioritize their offensive line. “We can talk about whether we want to add pass catchers… but really, you gotta make sure you take care of the point of attack.” Talking about Armand Membou, the host added, “Membou is a dominant blocker. He’s outstanding with his footwork and lateral quickness, perfect in a zone-based scheme because of his movement skills.”

The host also pointed out that Armand might come off a little intense, maybe even a bit aggressive. But that’s not a bad thing when it comes to an offensive lineman’s role. “He has a little prickly personality that sometimes can drive people the wrong way, but I like that in offensive linemen. We’re not playing friends, it’s okay to have frenemies.” The 23-year-old stands 6 feet tall and weighs 332 pounds, with an arm length of 0.85 m, according to the NFL Combine.

As per Bleacher Report‘s Moe Moton, Armand Membou could play a big role in turning things around for the Jets’ offense. “Membou would help protect quarterback Justin Fields as he tries to reinvent himself with his third team. And open up lanes for the Jets’ ground game, which racked up the second-fewest yards last season,” Moton wrote.
So, while fortifying the line is priority number one. The Jets also have their eyes on adding a new wideout. Now that Davante Adams is no longer in the mix.
What’s your perspective on:
Can Justin Fields finally shine with the Jets, or will he be another QB lost in chaos?

Jets’ WR room post-Davante Adams
After the Jets bid adieu to Aaron Rodgers, there was no chance that his longtime friend Davante Adams was going to stay. On March 4, New York released Adams after only one season. And on March 9, the WR signed a two-year deal worth $44 million with the Rams. Davante’s departure was a loss for the Jets. But the money they saved with his release can get them a worthy wideout in the draft.
As per the mock draft by Mike Moraitis of Sporting News, the Jets would draft Ole Miss WR Tre Harris in the third round to replace Davante. “Losing Davante Adams in free agency has left the Jets very short at wide receiver,” writes Mike. “Their need at the position could become even more dire. If they decide to move on from Allen Lazard, which remains a possibility even after his restructuring.“
WR Allen Lazard is currently in the last year of his $44M deal. And will be a free agent in 2026. So, the 29-year-old might want an extension this year. Mike Moraitis believes that even if the team offers him one, the Jets would still need to have some WR depth. There was also word around that New York might draft Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart. He and Tre Harris are college teammates. “Adding Harris not only gives a possible long-term running mate for Garrett Wilson and another weapon for Fields now, but he also has familiarity with Dart, who threw him the rock in college. Having a familiar face could help Dart acclimate better,” writes Mike Moraitis.

So, if the Jets pull the trigger on both, we might be looking at the start of a college reunion that could light up New York.
