Wait, did the Jets actually sign Justin Fields? This was everyone’s question when the announcement was made by the team. After all, the Jets signing Justin Fields was a huge surprise that no one expected. There were numerous teams expected to sign the 26-year-old QB, but he ultimately chose NY. The fascinating component of this signing is that the team offered him a two-year contract worth $40 million. WOW! This shows that, even though the Jets are testing Fields for the upcoming season, the team still has trust in him. After all, the Jets locker room is already ecstatic about receiving the QB, especially one player is overthrilled.

That is the spice of this story. According to reports, one star is overjoyed with the decision of Justin Fields leading the team as the QB1. This star is none other than WR Garrett Wilson. Wait, Wilson and Fields together? Does that ring a bell for you? Actually, they were the top QB-WR duo for the Ohio State Buckeyes. They have spent a significant amount of time in the CFB and understand their strengths and weaknesses.

This new magical tandem for the Jets has the potential to work extremely well after all of their years of playing together. Wilson did not have a particularly successful season with Aaron Rodgers, receiving 101 passes for 1,104 yards and 7 touchdowns. That is why he is so excited to play next season with a quarterback who understands his moves. The report regarding Wilson actually explained the situation claiming, “Jets WR Garrett Wilson is reportedly ‘thrilled’ to have a Buckeye reunion with QB Justin Fields in New York.”

Justin Fields would undoubtedly go above and beyond to secure a permanent spot on the squad in the past. After all, this is his third attempt at a long-term contract with an NFL team, and perhaps this can work as a charm because of Wilson. There have been numerous occasions when the CFB QB-WR tandem reunited and crushed every team. Just look at Joe Burrow and Ja’marr Chase. Just look at Jalen Hurts and DeVonta Smith. Even Tua Tagovailoa and Jaylen Waddle. Man! There are still many names on this list. And who knows, maybe Justin Fields and Garrett Wilson can make this list this year.

While the Jets can be as thrilled as they want right now, Justin Fields’ signing has cost them a lot this season as well. And I mean, a bit too much!

Justin Fields’ deal is a little too pricey for the Jets

Wait, doesn’t the team have a fair and square contract with the QB? So how does it cost them so much? Actually, Justin Fields is not the one who is causing the team’s financial problems. It’s their former QB Aaron Rodgers. Yep! That’s right. Everyone knew that this day would come for the squad after Rodgers’ performance in the 2024 season. It was evident that they were going to release the veteran quarterback; after all, he was not the fit to play any longer for them.

What’s your perspective on:

Can Justin Fields and Garrett Wilson recreate their Buckeye magic and lead the Jets to glory?

When the new league year began, it was official that the Jets would be parting ways with Rodgers. And the A-Rod era for them came to an end after two consecutive terrible seasons. But, this release came at a high cost for the Jets. The team currently has a $49 million dead cap hit, which will undoubtedly impair their NFL Draft intentions. While the Jets were able to sign a QB such as Justin Fields for a reasonable price, they still require a backup QB for the time being.

According to reports, the team may select someone in the NFL Draft or still go with Tyrod Taylor, who is still under contract with the franchise. Taylor was signed by the Jets in 2024 to a two-year, $18 million contract. He even performed effectively for the team in the second to last game of the 2024 season against the Bills, scoring two TDs in a single quarter. But what do you all think? Where should the Jets go in 2025?
