Justin Fields is finally getting his new home as a starter, at least as of now. Last season, Fields started for 6 games, playing in a total of 10 matchups. Russell Wilson took the rest of the season over for the Pittsburgh Steelers. But now, finally, the day has come where the young QB probably won’t have to shift his role to back up for any other quarterback—given the situation that Aaron Rodgers is going to be released soon from the New York Jets. But wait! This new handshake doesn’t necessarily end every problem of Fields.
According to Mike Florio of ProFootball Focus, Justin Fields still needs to keep open his door for surprises. We all know that Fields is signed to a two-year, $40 million contract with the Jets. And it seems he would be starting with the season this time for Woody Johnson’s franchise. But there might be a problem soon. So, what is it?
Florio suggested to “think about that two years, $40 million – $20 million a year for a veteran starting quarterback. I don’t think there’s another veteran starting quarterback that’s going to be making that little and it screams out potential placeholder.” The placeholder?

Yes! That’s what Justin Fields might look like – a placeholder until the Jets find a new QB for them. The analyst handed Fields a harsh reality by saying, “I don’t know who the Jets would draft. I don’t know if they’re even thinking of drafting anybody. But there’s always a veteran quarterback every year, who is the starter for about six weeks and then a rookie comes in and it’s all thrown into flux and chaos.” And who knows it better than Fields himself?
It happened to Justin Fields in Chicago when the Bears signed Andy Dalton. In fact, they even called him QB1, and then drafted Fields a month later. And yes, how can we forget the Steelers’s approach towards him? The 26-year-old was predicted to continue playing as a starter, but the Steel City showed more interest in Russell Wilson. Another betrayal for Fields. Enter the Jets after Aaron Rodgers‘s stint. As Florio suggested, they have the habit of changing their veterans – this could pose an issue once again for Fields.
Now you might be thinking, why sign with a team like the Jets? Well, Florio highlighted this factor as well. Justin Fields signing for just $20 million reveals the Steelers were being stingy in paying him good money. So, as Fields didn’t have any option left, he expected the Jets’ offer to be at least more than what Mike Tomlin was offering.

Justin Fields is uniting with a star player in the Jets!
Four years ago, when the Jets had the chance to sign Justin Fields, they overlooked him. Now, they were back again at the same situation, but this time, both said yes for the 2-year marriage. On Monday, Fields agreed to their 2-year, $40 million deal, with $30 million guaranteed. That likely makes him the QB1 even in veteran backup Tyrod Taylor’s presence. But what’s even more exciting is a reunion between the QB and WR!

Justin Fields and Garrett Wilson were each other’s Ohio State teammates. Back in Columbus, they were electric together – Fields throwing for 5,373 passing yards in two seasons with Wilson. So, it was obvious for the WR to express his excitement on the news. Hence, he took to Instagram to share news of Fields’s signing with his team. In addition, the 24-year-old commented on a post from a fellow Ohio State alum, saying, “What u mad at. U know what time it is.” He anticipated successful plays and touchdowns with the new QB.
