Sunday wasn’t the day for Justin Steele and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Last week it was the Indiana Colts, and this week it was the Dallas Cowboys. It looks like the Steelers’ dominating start to the season has suddenly halted. However, not just on the field; even in the post-game press conference, things didn’t work as Fields would have wanted them to.
In the post-game conference, Steele tried to defend HC Mike Tomlin following the team’s 10-17 defeat against Mike McCarthy’s boys at the Acrisure Stadium. During the presser, a reporter asked the young QB if the current Steelers’ offense has an identity or if it is still forming.
To this Fields replied, “No I think we have our identity”. However, when another reporter asked what that ‘identity’ was, it completely bowled out the 25-year-old. Fields fired blanks as he said, “What are the identity options in football? I haven’t heard a team having an identity. I think we have an identity but I don’t know what it is.”

ROUGH: #Steelers QB Justin Fields says he believes the team has an identity….
A reporter asks what the identity is, and Fields basically said nothing, and that he’s not able to answer that.

However, that wasn’t the end. Fields then threw his fellow teammate and WR George Pickens under the bus when a reporter asked, “Why was it difficult to add George Pickens to the offense?” To this, the Steelers’ QB replied, saying, “George Pickens didn’t get involved as he usually does today.” When the reporter countered him by asking why Pickens didn’t get involved, Fields explained that the 23-year-old didn’t get involved in snaps because, apart from being a good corner, he is also a good receiver.
It wasn’t a typical Justin Fields performance we saw on the ground on Sunday. He had a lackluster performance, with just 14 completed of 25 attempts for 138 yards and 2 TDs. Things are pretty fluid currently in the Steelers locker room. With Russell Wilson back fully healthy, Fields is already facing tough competition to be in the HC’s good books and keep the starter spot. However, one more such performance might jeopardize his situation and push Tomlin to move toward Russ as the team’s QB1.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Mike Tomlin is expected to call up Russell Wilson to start for the Steelers as QB1 after he returned ready for action. This comes after Justin Fields’ disastrous performance against the Cowboys during Sunday Night Football.
In a recent interview, Schefter talked about the possibilities of the Steelers benching Fields to start Russ. The insider said, “Russell Wilson has been getting healthier and healthier… I think he’s at the point where he’s healthy enough to play… I don’t know ultimately what the Steelers are gonna do but I do think at some point he’s gonna get a chance.”
Last season, Wilson played a total of 15 games. He had completed 297 of 447 attempts. Apart from that, the 35-year-old also had 26 TSs and 8 interferences for 3070 passing yards. However, things went south for the man after he suffered a calf injury during the preseason and has been out for five weeks now.

However, as per reports, Tomlin is yet to decide who will be the Steelers QB between Fields and Wilson. He is still very stagnated about not making his final decision until Russ is completely back at his 100%. Now it needs to be seen if, after just one bad game, Tomlin avoids taking risks and brings back Russell Wilson. Or he will still have his faith in Justin Fields, who has performed quite decently since the start of this season? Only time can tell.
