In the NFL world, where athletic prowess is constantly tested, players sometimes end up making bold claims. One such statement, made by Pittsburgh Steelers’ All-Pro linebacker TJ Watt, has started a fun debate. Watt declared, “I can F— win a state title as a high school quarterback right now.” giving his teammates reasons to make fun of him.
One of them is Steelers’ QB Justin Fields who responded to TJ Watt’s claims on Not Just Football with Cam Heyward, saying, “We have a guy in TJ Watt who says he could go back to high school, play quarterback, and win a state championship in Texas. Is that possible? No. I Don’t Believe You.” With a chuckle, Fields added, “What state is it possible to play quarterback and win?” Saying he has no experience playing as a quarterback.
Although Fields tried to balance his statements with sugarcoated words, “I’ve never seen a player take over the game as TJ did,” talking about Watts’s week 1 performance against Atlanta. Justin further added, “His pre-game speech, bro – I don’t know if he’s done that before… it was lit.” And the game felt like a “movie” that he has not seen but he’s ready to watch, and it’s good he is in the same team as him. Watt’s other teammates were not in the mood to let it slide.

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson joined the conversation, further poking fun at Watt’s claim. “He thinks he could go back to high school right now, go to Texas, play quarterback and win a state championship,” Wilson quipped while mocking him with other players who said, “I don’t know if he’s winning in Texas.” and “You ain’t seen them high schoolers.” telling there’s no way he can do it.

While TJ Watt’s confidence in his athleticism is very high. The 6-foot-4, 260-pound linebacker is known for his ability on defense. Since entering the league in 2017, Watt has terrorized opposing offenses, starting with his debut performance against the Cleveland Browns, where he recorded two sacks and an interception in a 21-18 victory. And was named the NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2021. That explains why he is one of the best defensive currently.
Although this is not the first time TJ Watt has shown interest in college football. He has previously talked about his dreams to lead the high school football team.

TJ Watt has a vision for life after football and that is coaching high school football with his brother. “Derek, my middle brother, to be like a head football coach, and me, I will just be like a D-line coach for like high school or something,” Watt opined, this will be a perfect job for him as he can show up to practice and just wants to teach without expecting to be the “head guy”.
This seems a fun idea because all three Watt brothers J.J., Derek, and TJ played for Pewaukee High School. While Derek has quit football after playing with Pittsburgh from 2020 to 2023, and this will bring back the nostalgia. However, there’s a long time for that but no one knows we might see him on high school football grounds. If not as a quarterback, maybe as a coach.
