Imagine earning a 7-figure just for a sack? Yeah, that’s what happened when Bills defensive end Von Miller sacked Drake Maye on third down during their final regular season clash. That was Maye’s 34th sack he took in the regular season. For Von Miller, it was his 6th sack that gave the 35-year-old more than just celebrations on the gridiron. He could probably be a very rich man by the end of today’s clash in New England.

See, Miller already had 5 sacks to his name before charging for his 6th today. But it didn’t just increase the tally of his sacks. Instead, Von Miller earned $1.5M through it. When Maye was looking to end the Patriots’ first offensive drive, Miller came charging down his right and got his 7-figure paycheck thanks to the rookie QB. Like, don’t even be surprised if we say that it was Maye’s last play of his rookie season. Yeah, that’s right. Jerod Mayo took his starting QB off and threw in fellow rookie Joe Milton III in his place.

Don’t you feel like Mayo just started Drake Maye to hand Milton his $1.5M? Well, who knows what went through Mayo’s mind to even think about starting his No.3 overall draft pick? The Pats already know what would happen if they somehow win today’s game. As for now, the Patriots are projected to get the No.1 overall draft pick next year. But a win today will drop them down to as low as 4th overall. And are they willing to risk that spot? Because of the way Milton started his day, it looks like he has some other plans of his own.

Before half-time, the sixth-rounder has already led the Patriots to 2 TDs. One came on the back of his 1-yard rushing TD, and the other was a 48-yard TD pass to Kayshon Boutte. Now, whatever Milton is up to counts as a different problem for the Pats. As for Von Miller, he can still earn more than just $1.5M by the end of today’s clash.

Von Miller tries to secure another 7-figure bonus before ending his regular season

The Buffalo Bills have already wrapped up their season before coming to New England to end their regular season. With a fifth consecutive AFC East title and a No.2 seed in the postseason, the Bills have done more than enough to make a strong case for themselves. While the Bills, as a team, have done their part, Von Miller still has some work to do. Despite being 35 years old and having lots of experience behind him, Miller still doesn’t wanna miss out on bonuses.

He has already recorded a sack that has earned the pass rusher $1.5M. And he needs two more to secure an additional $2M, bringing his total earnings to $3.5M. However, Miller isn’t the only one who might be chasing bonuses against the Patriots. Their defensive lineman DaQuan Jones needs half a sack to claim his $250,000 bonus. Moving away from the defense, the Bills have quite a few players on their offense chasing cash.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Von Miller's payday proof that defensive players deserve more recognition in the NFL?

Have an interesting take?

Bills WR Mack Hollins needs only two catches for his $50,000 bonus. Now, his day could get even better if he manages to record more than 72 receiving yards. On doing so, the Bills will have to reward him with another $200,000 incentive. But right now, it seems like Hollins is nowhere near those bonuses. He has yet to catch a single pass on Sunday. However, all eyes will be on Von Miller until the final whistle. Him getting two sacks will probably make his bank account look a bit more cooler than it already is.
