There has been much talk around Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and whether he can grow into an elite wideout. His last season didn’t make a dent as he recorded 12.7 yards per reception, which was the second lowest in his career. He also recorded a career-low of 4.7 rushing yards per carry. But Lamb-believers defended him by saying that he entered 2022 without Amari Cooper, and with Michael Gallup looking like a shell of himself. Has the situation changed this year?

This season he has all the right pieces to work with and in his last few games has shined through. But is it enough for him to merit the title of “Best Receiver in the NFL”?

CeeDee Lamb has brought his A-game so far in the season

In the latest game against the New York Giants, the Cowboys dominated them for a second time with a 49-17 victory. In their season opener, they had destroyed the Giants 40-0. Lamb recorded 151 yards and 1 TD on 11 catches against the Giants’ latest game. His total record this season is also impressive. 975 total receiving yards and 4 TDs.

Lamb scripted franchise history with his 617 receiving yards since Week 6. It was the most in a four-game run for the Cowboys since 1970. The 24-year-old also joined Michael Irvin as the only Dallas player to have registered more than 900 receiving yards in the first nine games of a season. The record had been held by Irvin since 1995.

Buoyed by all of this, he said, “I’m the top receiver in this game. There’s no question about it. If there is, I’ll see you again next week.” Is it just plain boasting or do his claims hold any substance?

He might not be the best, but he’s up there in top 10

Fox Sports compiled a list of top 10 receivers, so far in the season. And guess who came out on top? Not Lamb, but Minnesota Vikings wideout Justin Jefferson. Fox Sports placed Lamb in the eighth position. But it’s interesting to note that he is tied with Jefferson for generating 7 games in his career with 10-plus catches and more than 150 receiving yards.

From Week 6 onwards, no other wideout has come close to his record of 617 receiving yards, even though the Cowboys had a bye week in that period. He has recorded four consecutive games with more than 100 yards. And he’s not going to stop anytime soon. “They’re definitely trying to double me, but [head coach Mike McCarthy] is doing a great job of moving me around and putting me in motion, lining me up on the outside,” Lamb said.

It seems in the next game, he will get his chance to improve his season average. The 6-3 Cowboys are up against a 1-8 Carolina Panthers on Sunday Night Football. Will he manage to outdo himself this time?
