The last time they met the Chiefs was in the conference round of the 2020 season. And how can the Bills fans forget that loss? But the even bitter part of the story is that they failed to reach that round of the playoffs after losing the 2020 season in the conference title. Now, the word war is in full swing when they face each other after four years.
The Buffalo Bills offensive tackle Dion Dawkins was on The Jim Rome show on Jan 21. When asked about his take on the preparation and readiness for the conference showdown, the 30-year-old tackle said, “We need all the team we can get prepared for the FORMER Super Bowl champions. We understand we are who they are. We can’t slow step anything.” That’s a fiery take on opponents.

Calling the Chiefs ‘former champions’ instead of defending champions was a bold comment. But looking at their performance this season, this swag seems acceptable. Bills QB Josh Allen has a QB rating of 77.3 and ranks 2nd in the 2024 season. In the post-season only, he has a passer rating of 113.1. In the regular season, Allen had 3731 yards and 28 touchdowns.
Bills‘ rivalry with the Chiefs in the playoffs is quite old. If the Buffalo Bills win this game, they will enter the Super Bowl after 31 years. The last that happened was in 1993. Surprisingly, they defeated the Chiefs in that season’s Conference Championship game as well. And when they lost in 2020, it was the Chiefs that stopped their wagon. That’s something to remember.
Meanwhile, as the Chiefs are also ready and in good shape, Patrick Mahomes has helped the defense of his team to beat the toughest offense of Josh Allen’s Bills.

The Chiefs DE George Karlaftis revealed receiving help from the superstar QB when he was on The Rich Eisen Show on Jan 21. When asked about how much effort the team put into the defense, he said, “In training camp, it’s just kind of like you know he can Mahomes can do whatever. I mean he’s one of the one of the best, if not the best to ever do it. So you know we have all the respect in the world for him. We know and we trust that he’s making us better. It’s one of the better offenses that we’ll see all year.” Tackling a tough offense like that of Mahomes could be a great learning curve for any defense.
And apart from talking about Patrick Mahomes, the two-time Super Bowl champion also shared glimpses of the high level of preparation they do under Andy Reid’s coaching. “Andy Reid’s training camps are really hard so going at each other every single day uh as hard as we possibly can you know makes us better and I think that’s one of the reasons why we’ve had the success,” the DE said. He also added that Andy Reid knows what to call in critical situations.
