“I’ve fought a good fight. I’ve finished my football race, and after 18 years, it’s time.” Those were the words of Broncos QB Peyton Manning when he left the team in 2016, leaving them in a long search for a QB. After Manning, the Broncos just couldn’t find a rhythm or a QB that would fit their team. All those years of searching for a QB haunted Denver’s general manager and former QB, John Elway. And more than anything, what troubled him the most was not drafting Josh Allen. But now, as the team finds an end zone with Bo Nix. It seems like their worries have been resolved.

Before Josh Allen entered the NFL draft in 2018, Elway and the Broncos had their eye on him. At the time, Allen was playing for the Wyoming Cowboys. But eventually, Elway decided to sign Case Keenum instead. Fast forward to today, and the Bills are set to face the Broncos in the wild-card round on Sunday. The Bills QB was asked about Elway passing on him in the 2018 draft ahead of the game. Is it true that what Elway said it took you 2.5 balls to finally ask him about this?” asked the media.

Yeah, it was. Whether it was 2 holes or 22 shots on the driving range. It was, I brought it up pretty quickly. No, he’s an awesome man, obviously a great player, got a lot of respect for him,” replied Allen.

The Broncos not picking him up must’ve felt like a stab in the back to Josh Allen, especially after they closely watched him during his Wyoming days. John Elway even made the trip to the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl to watch Allen play. To the Broncos, he looked like the perfect fit for their team.

They kept checking in on him up to his pro day. Josh was all in on joining Elway for his NFL journey but then came the letdown. Hindsight’s 2020. Who knows how it would have worked out? I’m just glad I’m where I’m at,” added the Bills QB.

While Josh initially took the hurt of not getting drafted by Elway, the latter regretted his decision every single day until the Broncos landed Bo Nix this year.

Bo Nix fixes John Elway’s worries after eight long years

The Broncos were on a quest for a QB for eight long years after Peyton Manning‘s departure. After Manning left, they played two seasons with Trevor Siemian before going with Case Keenum in 2018. But their search didn’t end with Keenum. For the next three years, the team kept switching its QBs.

In 2022, they brought in former Seahawks star QB Russell Wilson. Wilson took over as Denver’s QB1 until March of last year for two years. And finally, the long quest came to an end. They picked 24-year-old Bo Nix in the first round of the draft.

Bo is making quite a splash with his performance in his rookie year. And after nine long years, they’ve ended the curse of not making it to the postseason. Thanks to QB Bo. In his rookie year, Nix has racked up 3,775 yards, with 29 TDs to his name. Last Sunday, Bo-led Broncos gave the Chiefs a shutout, 38-0, with the QB scoring four TDs and racking up 321 yards.

In the postseason, Bo Nix and Co. will be traveling to Buffalo to face the Bills on their home turf, Highmark Stadium. What a sight it would be to see two of Elway’s choices facing off against each other. Will Nix be able to win this one against the Bills and make Elway completely get over his mistake? Or will Allen hand Bo a defeat and rub salt in the wounds of the Broncos’ general manager?
